Any votes in the Xikar v colibri camps? use a plastic no brand cutter and not a fan of the performance, but am i fan of the cut. i know of xikar set for life warranty, but all colibri stuff i have seen is only a couple years.

I'm a Xikar fan ... no experience with the vx2 per se, but Xikar is solid quality ... Colibri, on the other hand, is a big name and a generally bigger price tag than their actual quality justifies

I have the colibri V cutter just like the one shown on the page addy you posted. Honestly I love that cutter. It has some heavy weight to it but not overly heavy which I love. It cuts clean and has never failed me yet in the year I have owned it. As it stands right now the only Xikar product I own is a lighter and I love it as well. I did have to send the lighter back once. I love that Xikar has the lifetime on their products. The VX2 according to that page sells for 49.00, The colibri I think you can get cheaper. Seems I remember mine being 10 bucks cheaper which if it should ever break then I am out a cutter. I would love to give the Xikar a go especially if it is a good clean cutting cutter and the fact that if it should break then Free Fix due to the warranty.

Overall I prefer a V-cut and use both my Xikar VX and the Colibri Deep V-cut. I've had my Xikar for almost 5 years and no issues whatsoever. Started to use the Colibri late last year and although I didn't care for it at first, have figured out that it's best for bigger ring gauge cigars (52+). The Colibri does produce a really deep but clean cut.

is the colibri also spring loaded? im like a kid cuz if it shoots open then +1

went to get some beer (avery liliko'i kepolo) awesome stuff, and checked out the colibri. the store didnt have the xv2 or the beer. but a diffrent location ended up having both. the colibri was 25 but when i saw the xikar was 36, seemed like it was worth the extra cash. i must say i do like it except silver was thier only color. i may take it to another shop and see if they are willing to swap out colors for me thou. ill see about snagging a colibri on here if possible maybe buit didnt wanna pass up the xikar at that price. thanks all for the guidance

I have the Xikar and I like it. I have used the cheap ones and the Xikar is way better. It has remained sharp for years. Pretty sure that reckless gave it to me. A very nice gift indeed.

Don't buy anything but Xikar. The lifetime warranty is the best.

I love these cutter posts. I recently started v-cutting too but haven't spent money on one yet. Reading these posts all I can think about is being able to ask my grandpa his opinion and getting made fun of as he bit the end off of his Garcia y Vega.

+1 for the xikar vx cutter, I have had it since it came out and it is a bit worn due to pocket wear. But still cuts like a champ. I tend to use my xikar straight cut more often, but love the deep v with the xikar. Also, can personally say I love the lifetime warranty, they replaced my xikar xi3 zebrawood after the wood broke off. Shipped it them and they shipped me a brand new one.

I own a Colibri V, a Xikar VX, and two Xikar VX2s. Here are my findings:

Colibri V: cut too wide and deep for most cigars, acceptable for maybe 60 ring and over, maybe 58 and 56, but that's about it IMO. Too hard to keep lip-seal on anything smaller because the hole is so huge and deep. Obliterates the heads of smaller vitolas like lancero. Cheesy 2-year warranty, after that, screw you pal.

Xikar VX: modest-size cut, great for smaller ring cigars and cigars with a draw that's too loose when straight cut, the VX cut can tighten that up a bit. Also a good general-purpose V-cutter all-around. Plain appearance. Lifetime replacements for any reason forever.

Xikar VX2: wider, deeper cut than the VX, but not as crazy-large as the Colibri V. IMO excellent choice of cut geometry, the perfect middle ground. Stellar general-purpose V-cutter. Very sexy design and two of the finshes (gunmetal and red) are absolutely gorgeous visually. Lifetime replacements for any reason forever.

Winner: Xikar VX2.

Don't pay the $49.99 full retail, look for deals and coupons to stack on top. I got my pair of VX2 units for $25 and $30.

I've got both the Colibri and the Xikar VX and usually use the Colibri. It makes a deep, aggressive cut that IMO doesn't work well with less than about a 50 ring. I usually smoke toros or Churchills, so the size of the cut isn't an issue to me. That said, the Colibri is certainly an acquired taste and the cut is much wider and deeper than the cuts made by those plastic cheapo cutters.

As for pricing, watch the auctions. I bought a few Colibris at -- IIRC -- 22 bucks each. On the one I carry, the blades have stayed sharp cutting several cigars per day, day after day, though I did lose a screw. I emailed Colibri and they sent a pack of replacements.

As for warranty, back in my retail days I did product exchanges with both companies. Xikar's customer service is first rate, but Colibri was legit also. Xikar's lifetime warranty is definitely a plus.
