Is it me or is the market (especially Cbid) overloaded with cigars bigger than 50 ring? Years ago there were a lot of petite coranas, coronas, lonsdales and panetelas. Cbid seems to be overloaded with very large ring sized cigars. I don't know if people quit buying the smaller ring cigars or the market is telling the consumer what to smoke. I personally prefer cigars that are no larger than 50-52 ring and shorter than 6", although a nice churchill is fine when I have time. Who is the guy that suddenly said everyone was interested in 60 ring cigars. Perhaps Cbid is the dumping ground for what is not moving at regular prices. in the non-auction market. Also, I sometimes think Rocky Patel has more brands than the entire market had 20 years ago.

I typically smoke 6 x 54 and under most of the time.

Different sizes and shapes all have their place...

Many believe that smaller ring gauges have more 'flavor' and nuance from the wrapper...

I tend to agree, though I do enjoy many short and fat cigars...

IIRC we discussed this at another place with Jon Huber (owner of Crowned Heads) and I think a rep from Drew Estates. They say that this is what the younger and new cigar smoker wants. That's why you now see so many large RG cigars. Manufacturers making what their customers demand.

Personally, as a FOG, I prefer coronas, robustos, and corona gordos. From my experience, it seems as many progress in this hobby, they tend to start gravitating toward the smaller ring gauges.

I'm sure the shift to smaller cigar sizes has a lot to do with the time it takes to smoke them. I like Nubs, but it takes a bit over an hour to really enjoy them so they just keep aging.

Lonsdale is such a good size that we dont see very often anymore.

rarely smoke anything over 54 RG or longer than 6" unless it's a lonsdale or lancero...

54 is around my personal max. I much prefer a traditional 48 and I enjoy coronas, lonsdales, petit coronas and lanceros as well. I find the wrapper flavor gets lost in the big RGs and sometimes the wrapper is really good too. Every blend/wrapper combination has it's perfect size vitola and it's experimentation that seems to yield the best results.
