Just saw the first of the year here in LA. Normally see them by the third week in Mar.

I always love watching hummingbirds. When I was traveling I would take my feeder everywhere I went. It was the first thing I would put up, well, if it was season. In Asheville NC so many would come around it sounded like a hornets nest was next to your head. I miss seeing them, in Memphis they don't come around much.

Have you tried putting a feeder out Spey? The things are dirt cheap and so is the food or you can even make up your own. It was amazing how through most of my life it was a rare thing to see them but once the feeder went up. First season I seen more than I thought I would have seen in my entire life. Every day they would come in droves, They got accustomed to me being on the porch and the lil bastids would get curious. First they started dive bombing at me next thing I knew they would stop right in front of my face and hover just checking me out.

They're all over my back yard each year. Neighbor has a couple bushes with flowers (that were hanging into my yard) that attracts them.

I don't want to put up a feeder, though... it'd be an invitation for my cat to feed on them while they feed on the sugar water.

Stupid cat...

That could be the Humming bird/cat feeder.
2 birds and all that jazz.

umhum... See it would even cure your frustrations...

Feed the lil birds, Feed the cat, fix your stress level due to the pain in the arse cat..... I see nothing but all positives here.

I'd rather kill the stupid cat than let her kill any more birds.

She's 18+ years old. She's had a good run... and she tore up my carpet while she was at it. She's padding around real gingerly lately. Might be time to let her feed the coyotes.

once in a while we see one or two hovering around the weeping cherry tree outside the kitchen window. Last year I hung a feeder right near the tree and never saw another again.
But I'll try again this year when it warms up.

Hummingbirds? Dang, it takes like 20 of them just to make a meal.

Actually, I've seen several of them buzzing around the NC house. We're planning on putting out a feeder or two once we get settled.

The little territorial bass turds dive bomb me most every morning. I like them but not 12" from my face.
