I remember my first Genesis Project back at CigarFest '11 or '12, when it was first introduced. I instantly fell in love with this cigar and recommended to the board. In fact, it was the only cigar here that I actually was willing to pay full price for, which at the time was $59.95 a box. I ran out of these not long after my exile in '14.

Fast forward to today. I recently won some cheap, and smoked my first one in years just a few minutes ago. It was nothing like I remembered. Bitter and harsh. I thought I had read somewhere that the blend was changed. So, my question. Was the blend actually changed during my exile years, or do these just need a very, very long nap?

They went to sh** IMO.

One of the violas is slightly better (rob or toro) but still not the same.

I quit buying them some time ago, had a few gifted to me here and there. Don't get me wrong, they're not terrible just not what they were. I always say tastes change and the product is a agricultural product which is subject to a lot of environmental variables. The difference is just too much. Sometimes MEASURED success is the best thing for cigars. Even JD admitted part of DE sale to Swisher was due to excessive growth.

Never had The Project, only the Genesis Habano...

Based on the Habano, I never saw the need to try The Project...

The box I had were OK, but nothing to write home about...Better after a few beers...

That was more than a year ago when they were going cheap here (~$35/bx)...

I also purchased a two boxes in early 2014. Fortunately, those are smoking and tasting great now, but still not as good as 2012. I'm thinking I got lucky with those 2 early 2014 boxes..............maybe they were older stock.
I was a Bueso fan in the old days...............but doubt I'll be buying any more any time soon.

I appreciate the replies, brothers. Real bummer. No wonder I was able to win them for under $2. This was the one cigar that I was really looking forward to smoking again. Unless the remaining 9 turn around big time, I won't be wasting any more time or money on these. 😢

Reset then 4 months. I know its a two buck gar. But that rest takes away what I call a gritty charcoal taste.

Had a few robs and toros from 2014 and didn't like them much. Have some early 2015 torpedos to try.

I had been looking to bid on Genesis the Project with the Ashtray because I thought the ashtray would be a good addition and to get a few smokes..

Guess ill skip those. Sad

I concur with the dink. Up until a few months ago, I still got some occasionally. But they always get buried for minimum of four months - 12 is better.

had a couple 5ers of the genesis robusto from here not too long ago... every last one of them had undertones of musty hay/ barn-like odor... very similar to gran habano stuff... never used to get this on these... it was very disappointing... doubt I'll pick any up ever again... the odyssey is - at best - a $2 cigar... not a bad one, just not great...

Sad to say similar experience with the Genesis Habano. The initial release was amazing, not that long later they dropped down to average. Not bad, but not what they were. 😞

Smoked the last of my early 2014 boxes and it was great.

Box from 2015 and 2016 weren't the same. I ended up getting rid of them when I purged my stash.
