Because she is a huge Trump supporter and is popular with his base, which translates into millions of eyeballs on her show...

those comments were not offensive to her, or Trump's, followers...who think this is just Political Correctness extremism...they believe people should be able to express themselves without fear of being whacked by the civility police, regardless of who may be offended...

Personally... I have never liked the lady, never thought she was funny, and have never watched her shows. I DGAF who she voted for.

She isn't a huge Trump supporter......she's pretty entrenched in the LL ( libertarian left) and is open to some "conspiracy theories". She's said she wanted to give Cheeto a chance and thought he had some redeeming qualities (policy wise). Funny how if you don't join the lynch mob you get hung by useful idiots.

And even her stupid comments are being bent a bit. I don't think saying that something is like planet of the apes directly means someone who ISN'T BLACK (Valerie Jarret) is an ape (racist context). Valerie is as black as me. Then I heard she said something anti-semetic.....Valerie isn't Jewish either, but I don't even care enough to chase this one down. Stupid comments, that much like the stupid NFL players KNEELING AT WORK it's going to garner passionate polar reactions. She should have known that.

I think she's a comedian who is prone to saying outlandish, colorful and nasty things. I will hold my breath for our board lefties who stuck up for Colbert, Griffin, Joy Baher and the like........I'm sure they'll repeat old arguments for Rosie....

Her maternal great grandfather is also the first African American enrolled at MIT, so she's likely blacker than you.

Ironically Wikipedia even says she has a Jewish great grandfather... But given that I doubt she has ever claimed to be Jewish... That probably doesn't matter.

I'm sure her comeback on TV was a calculated risk, given Trump's popularity and that his base can sustain good TV ratings, as shown by Fox News...

personally, I wasn't a big fan of hers from before...didn't think too much of her stand-up work...and didn't think her big moment with the national anthem was all that funny...

as for likening people to apes...there are some who are offended... and others who think nothing of it...people in European soccer stadiums throw bananas at black soccer players all the time...there's an effort underfoot in Russia to try to stamp out that behavior before the World Cup this year (good luck with that, in Russia)...Obama and Michelle were portrayed with simian features frequently...

wasn't a loyal follower of the show back then or now, but what I did watch I thought was pretty funny, certainly more topical, timely and more related to real America.

98.2% of network comedies have some inane event at the center of the plot...Joey gets his hand stuck in a jar and they have to hide it from his parents, or some such lower level bit of brilliance.

But the show Rosanne went right after it, everything just seemed more real.
