Was just sitting here, and wife and dog were out on back deck....the skies got really dark...Then there was a loud explosion...really, an explosion!!!!

I went running out back and my dog ran past me going the other way....my wife ran into me as she came through the slider on the run.....turns out lightening struck a huge old tree out beyond the fence,about 40 yards from the deck ...the tree split at the fork, and it's smoldering down inside the trunk, gonna have to call the fire dept.....maybe not,it's raining so hard I can't even see the tree now....

dog is still under the bed (moving and shaking Frank)...LoL….but it's a nervous LoL(really)

I gotta go change my fishnets...

If you wanna be safe you oughtta go hunker down under that tree... lightning never strikes twice and such...

Wow! Too close.

We had lightening take out a large pine about ten feet from the house. My wife was on the back porch and saw bark flying past the corner of the house. The tree was stone dead.

Check all your electronics, we had it take out electronics that were not even plugged into a power socket. Lightening can induce currents in cables strong enough to fry things.

all is well, no electronics, or any damage, other than the tree...

Rain seems to have put out the fire, we got about an inch and a half in less than an hour....

Going to have to take down the tree because it's hung up on the trunk side and looks like it's gonna fall...don't want anyone hurt...I have a buddy who likes to play Paul Bunyan to help drop the whole tree...I'll probably get out of it for a cooler full of beers, dinner, and an after dinner cigar or two....maybe one of the "Custom Rolled" cigars...alright, almoat definitely one or two of the "Custom Rolls" 😰

Dog is still pretty skittish in the backyard...some kids on dirt bikes went by out in the woods....Damn I didn't know she could run that fast...

up early this morning and my buddy came by and we got the hung up part of the tree down...will get the rest of it down and cut up next weekend

On the plus side , I'll have plenty of wood for the smoker, the firepit, and the White Mountain Boogie for several years....the tree was a huge old sugar maple....in the neighbor hood of 150 years old, about a 3+ foot diameter trunk at base and 40 or so feet tall.....Damn that Mother Nature is a strong biotch when she's angry...

on the down side, the foliage won't be as pretty out there anymore...that was always the first tree to start changing colors...it would start to turn a bright gold color towards the end of August, and slowly turn to a bright reddish color by mid- October....the color display will be missed...

Plant a new one near the stump next arbor day. Long after you are gone others will enjoy it, just as you have enjoyed this tree. Or plant one now in honor people who are gone but not forgotten. I planted a few of my mom's favorite trees in memory of her this last arbor day. Every time I look at them it makes me smile.

I just mentioned it to my wife and she is all excited about the idea... she's ready to go do it now, lol, I told her it would probably work out better if we wait to clean up the old tree first
