Anyone else encounter this scam? Kids are duped into selling frozen cookie dough that's so bad its sales are completely reliant upon people showing pity to children... All done under the guise of raising money for schools when in reality you're raising money for a terrible company that gives a little bit of money to schools...

My boy is 5 and can't really grasp all that yet, but what he certainly can grasp is that his school needs money to buy things that contribute to his education... And since it's his education he needs to be at least partly responsible for footing that bill.... Chores, bake sale, lemonade stand - his call... Heck, he can sell vacuums door to door if he wants.... But having your kids pressure their relatives into buying a product is not a good school fundraiser...

I absolutely hate the idea.

As a potential customer of a product I neither want, nor need, I expect to be able to grill those responsible for the selling. I want to look at budgets, understand projected shortfalls, results of voter tax initiatives....can't do that to a five year old...pathetic ruse. I like to be able to look a Girl Scout in the eye and say "What percent of my $4 goes to your troop and what do you intend to do with it?" Five year olds aren't ready for this business.

If our public schools are broke...and I contend most are....then, funding, budgets and teacher compensation are every bit as broke -- 40 years ago we did some candy sales and other stuff, but IIRC, that was only for funding things like trips and sports/music equipment that was (understandably?) outside regular budgets

I'm gonna take my boy to Costco and let him pick out different boxes of candy bars... Then I'm gonna drive him over to the dispensary my buddy runs... Them I'm gonna let him decide how much of that cold hard cash he wants to donate to his school...

When I was in school we would sell 10 minutes of dry humping drafter in the closet to raise money.....

We made the most money outside the Catholic Church....

Those school sales are mostly scams. crappy products, minuscule return for the school and putting children out peddling instead of being kids. Just donate some cash to the school needs if you wish.

yep ... and Girl Scout cookies too...my daughter's sister-in-law participates annually and makes an effort to qualify her girls for some of the bigger prizes for total sales...my wife and I get away with buying only 3-4 boxes because we have health issues...

I don't really see how the young girls learn anything from watching mom peddle cookies for them and then they end up with a prize...but the alternative of having the girls stand outside supermarkets or going door-to-door are not appealing either...

Just had two dudes at my door trying to get me to switch to Frontier. I told them I wasn't interested and they kept talking, so I shut the door. Peeked out the peep-hole and saw them still standing there looking at their phones, so I opened the door and told them to leave my property.

Dude says, "Thanks for being rude", to which I replied, "That's what you get when you trespass on people's property to peddle shit they don't want."

Irritates me as much as cold calls... leave me the f*** alone.

Back decades ago when I used to deliver newspapers, I'd see 'No Soliciting' signs on people's doors and think "No surprise - He's a ******'

But, now, I'm the ****** with the 'No Soliciting' sign and it has reduced the rings and knocks dramatically.

I had a "no soliciting" sign... but when I got the exterior of my house repainted, they removed it to paint the door. I need to put that back up.

I used to sell kirby's... Door to door... I was 18 and didn't own a home so didn't realize how annoying I was to homeowners... I was always taught people put up no soliciting signs because they were too weak willed to say no to salesmen...

I put it up because I just don't want to be bothered.
