Good morning.

My name is David Barksdale, retired CFO and restaurant/whisky bar owner. I am trying to help a family member trade for her late father's (my 1st cousin) somewhat substantial cigar and humidor collection. Everything from Cohibas & Partagas to Thompsons, I have pictures of everything and will be inventorying the collection early next week. All cigars properly stored in humidors in Gainsville, Florida, where the ambient humidity would help preclude any dry sticks. All trades backed by a no questions asked return policy.

A rookie to the site, would appreciate any input and advice on how to proceed.

Thank you sir. Learning by the hour from veterans like yourself. Believe that everything begins once I have an accurate inventory, with a trip accross the panhandle planned for the first of the week. While I acknowledge that trust is a primary issue, there also exist escrow services that hold any other remuneration in escrow until the buyer has received his goods and is satisfied.

Would you go into the lounge of a brick-and-mortar cigar shop and announce to all its customers who are present that you have a bunch of cigars for sale and you want to take offers from those customers? Actually, by leaving a persistent post here, it's more like leaving a printed sign in the lounge saying this, for every customer who comes into the lounge to see, day after day.

How do you think the shop's management would view that?

I don't work for CigarBid, I was just pointing out that they may not like the idea.

Actually, you might find this interesting: I had to reconsider something similar, and it didn't even involve money.

I have a very large cigar collection, and I was considering telling my family that if I should die early and unexpectedly, they should periodically take chunks of my collection and drive around to area cigar shops and hand it all out to random guys in the shop lounges, and do that repeatedly until it's eventually all gone. Y'know, just an awesome thing to do, just shower random cigar guys with free stuff, because why not? Maybe it'd get me good karma in the afterlife, and it's just a really cool thing to do.

I soon realized that while a few shop owners would think it's a cool idea and would look the other way, most of them would be annoyed or outright pissed off, even though money wouldn't be involved! It'd still potentially hurt their sales.

Was actually thinking that Cigar Bid was akin to www.Winebid.com, wherein individuals buy and sell wine everyday. Rookie mistake.

I like how you changed your original verbiage, although you didn’t have to delete your original message and post up a new thread, coulda just edited it. But putting this as a “trade” makes it a little more palpable to the moderators...I think / hope. “Wallet candelas” and “pocket lint” are a couple of euphemisms I’ve seen for the “trade” that you ultimately want to accomplish.

I wasn't trying to sell the cigars myself like this guy was, I was merely pointing to an online sale. Also, while I hinted, I never actually mentioned the competitor's name, thus complying with all applicable forum rules.

That's WHY the mods allowed it, and WHY the thread's still there, unchanged and undeleted, weeks later.

Very, very different from an open solicitation and attempt to personally sell cigars directly to forum members oneself.

Both are cigars that aren’t being sold by Cbid. Anyways atleast you took it upon yourself to be the self appointed Cbid moderator to post big soap box rants when noops do noop stuff. Carry on.
