At least four Democrats facing sexual misconduct controversies in the #MeToo era were voted into office on Tuesday, a result that would appear to clash with the party’s claims to stand behind women and have zero tolerance toward such allegations.

House Reps. Keith Ellison, Tony Cárdenas and Bobby Scott, and Sen. Bob Menendez, all came out victorious on Tuesday, despite being accused of misconduct.


Their election raises questions whether the Democratic Party, which went all-out to stop now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in the face of assault claims and stressed the importance of believing women’s allegations, is selectively tapping into the #MeToo movement.

Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), was one of the highest-profile candidates who won the election. He became the state attorney general in Minnesota despite allegations of domestic violence.


On the Republican side, meanwhile, there were no congressional candidates that managed to survive allegations raised against them.

Pennsylvania's Republican congressional candidate Marty Nothstein lost to Democrat Susan Wild. His campaign has been mired with a sexual harassment allegation dating back 20 years, a charge he denied claiming the story was planted just as he announced his bid for Congress.

“Both the Upper Macungie Township police and the Lehigh County District Attorney's office investigated this accusation and found it to be groundless,” Nothstein said during a press conference in August.

The point of the post seems to be that the left's #metoo movement CLAIM to believe the accuser over the accused. They CLAIM it's the right thing to do.
But when push comes to shove, it's just simple low down and dirty partisan politics.
Believe the accuser only if the accused is Republican.

I don't get it at all...report it when it happens and nail the offender when you have the evidence...I don't care how "hard that is"...
When you wait 2-3 decades, it becomes a farce with no real outcome...except a lot of millionaire rich a-holes losing their jobs and wives for long ago deeds... Which really is justice in a sort of way but if the charges are false? Then who wins?

Love the garbage you come up with Drafter. Why the different tone than you had with Kavanaugh? The same standard applies. Accused has no validity. Kavanaugh was accused. The accusations were lies or unverifiable. Are you using a crystal ball, magic 8 ball, or tarot cards to discern the truth of these accusations?

I could be missing something, but hasn’t some of the accusers been referred to the FBI for making false claims? Aren’t said accusers members of the group who once called for the FBI to investigate the person they accused? How many times has it been said, “careful what you wish for”

But to be fair, you have to consider the timing (at the peak of #MeToo) and the fact that it was never innuendo or "he said, she said". It was based on numerous photos.

Feigned outrage is easy when there is no defense.

The whole Kavanaaugh episode was despicable. At first I thought let's know for sure, and his anger was out of line. Then my POV slowly changed. Feinstein sat on it. At the late date it was brought out it was political grandstanding. They never found a shred of evidence. There should have been repercussions for putting it in play. Also, Kavanaugh's anger was justifiable. Who wouldn't be outraged over such an accusation.

I'd be mad too.
