I smoke cigars outside on the covered rear porch year round. For the past couple years I've been using a tank top propane heater with mixed results. One of the draw backs is I tend to run out of fuel half way through a cigar. A couple weeks ago I ran across a Presto Heat Dish heater at Costcos and decided to give it a try. This is one of those heaters with a reflector disk that looks like a small satellite dish. To my surprise, this puts off far more heat then my tank top. I set my heaters on top of a bucket so that the heat is more concentrated toward my upper body and face. I had to push this heater about a foot further away from me, then where I had the old propane tank top. I've been out there when temps where in the upper teens, and so far, so good. Needless to say, the old tank top has been retired, plus I no longer have to worry about running out of propane.

That Presto one says it pulls 1000 watts... What does that do to the electric bill?

Have the same heater. It only heats what it is pointed at. It does not heat the ambient air. Used it my garage office. Raised the electric bill around $40/month. No longer use it.

A extra 2nd tank of propane is cheap. Always keep 2 for the grill so no fear of running out while cooking too.

At $ 0.18 a kilowatt hour, that would be $ 0.18 or less here.

I don't know yet, but I hope it's less then the $40 I was spending on Propane every 2 to 3 weeks.

Yes, I have multiple tanks, but I won't change the tank while the heater is still hot. I always seem to be about half way through when it runs out.

I'm going to get a tank top heater for my 4 car garage. I'm sure it will do just fine to take the chill out of the air in Phoenix.
