I work with a guy from the Dominican Republic. He goes back 2 or 3 times a year.

What does the general population here recommend from PDR, La Aurora, and LFD?

He gets them cheap there and can bring 100 cigars back at a time.

I have never had any of these brands.

If ya'll could, point me in a direction.

I feel like LA is pretty solid across the board and haven't had anything I've disliked. As far as favorites:

Untamed - might be discontinued at this point
Preferidos - Maduro, Cameroon, and Sumatra my favorites
Escogidos - prefer the maduro
The newer ADN Dominicana very good also
1495 and 1495 Brazil to round out my top choices

Stopping now before I simply list the entire catalogue

Only had a few PDRs and one LFD so not much help there

I’d stick with LFD’s all the way.
Ligero
Double ligero maduro
Colorado oscuro
Ligero cabinet
Andulasian Bull
Maybe some special releases from Litto.

Whistle will come along and tell you what to get...

I’ll second the La Aurora Preferido Maduro from Sunoverbeachs list as well......the number 2 double perfecto was my fav.......not sure they still make them in maduro?
Haven’t had one in years...

Thanks for recommendations so far.....

I guess I will be putting a list together for him.....

Don't think I will go 5 boxes deep the first time around. Would hate to have 5 boxes of smokes I don't like.

He should be going next month.

When he gets there he is gonna call me with prices.

Ill post them here in case anyone is interested.

never been to the DR, but somewhere through the cobwebs of my addled brain I seem to have picked up this tidbit:

the best cigars from the Dominican are exported. It is nearly impossible to buy a good cigar on the island.

that could be a 15 year old news flash, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

What's today? JK

I distinctly recall being told this info.

He is gonna give me a call when he gets there.
He doesnt smoke, therefore has never really checked into things.
Ill keep you guys updated.
Maybe it'll be a foul ball, maybe it'll be a grand slam...

Ligero cabinets with the Oscuro wrapper are phenomenal and I like all the others listed a lot as well, but not mentioned was the Litto Gomez line awesome.

If I remember right Fuente JUST recently started tours and I don’t think it’s at all like DE where it’s as accessible year round or as frequently.

Frank I believe there is a hefty tax? So not a lot are sold domestically as most can’t afford them. I believe the most popular cigar IN the DR is a machine rolled........ Thundergerbil would be the authority on this I would trust, he’s the smartest smartazz on CBid no doubt.
