I have a few Xikar Trezo lighters. Their new HP3 has the same flame pattern, but a larger, newly-styled body with dual large "EZ-view" fuel windows that make the butane look red (the Trezo has a small fuel window that doesn't do the red trick, making it harder to read), and due to the larger body, I'm guessing the HP3 might have a larger butane tank and capacity, but I don't know.

Does anybody have both? Can anyone confirm the tank is bigger on the HP3? Can anyone say how much better the HP3 fuel windows are than the Trezo's window? Is it worth getting the HP3 if you already have a Trezo (or several).

The HP3 does look stunning in close-up high-res photos I've seen, but I've never seen one in person.

I love the flame pattern, and it'd be nice to have it in a lighter with more capacity and easier-to-read fuel window(s). Or is capacity the same despite the larger body, so it's simply not worth upgrading?

Bic or jetlite lighter for the pocket, propane torch in the garage.

I've tried several butane lighters but never had good luck refilling more than a couple times. Spent some money on higher end lighters too.

* some lighters (including most Xikars) let you do a simple 2-minute procedure with a small screwdriver to adjust the flame adjustment wheel's range (which is a subset of the lighter's full possible range) into a higher or lower part of the lighter's full possible range (Xikar has a YouTube video about this, watch it).

* Xikar will replace your lighter with a brand new one as often as necessary forever, by mail or instantly over-the-counter at a dealer. If the above techniques don't work, this obviously will fix the problem, every time and forever. I recommend disregarding all other brands for this reason alone.

Burn these into your brain, and you may find you don't have many or any problems with quality refillable butane lighters anymore.

It worked for me! I'm basically 99.9% problem-free here, and with lots and lots of Xikars.

One of my cigar buddies used to be a Bic guy, but now he likes torches better than soft flames. But, he has bad luck with torches, like you do. Know what he does?

Every so often he'll go on Amazon and buy an entire display tray of cheap torches (12 or 24 or however many are in those display trays you see in convenience stores). Uses one till it gives him problems, throws it right in the trash and grabs the next one.

Being Chinese-made and low-priced when you buy by the entire tray, he says it's quite cost-effective and he loves it. No hassles.

I admit, while I have a couple decent lighters, I've fried enough forgetting in the car on a hot day that I've got a rotating line of those carbon fiber oneson cbid that you can usually win for a couple bucks

That's my theory anyway. Works in the morning. Forget in the car. No longer lights. Done this 3x with 2 different Jetline models (far from top end also). My guess is heat overpressuizing something

I bought my last Xikar lighter at least 5 years ago. The best that could be said about them is that they were pretty when new. Not garbage, but finish scratches easy and the lighters could be a bit temperamental. I have only used lighters from dealextreme for the past several years. Very reliable with incredibly large tanks. Buy a dozen....they run as high as about 4 bucks per. They can last years, but I dont worry about losing them over the side of the boat, or giving them away. I get a dozen every 3 years or so. Skip all that high maintenance stuff. Fill one and use it for almost six weeks....longer if you dont go through over a box of cigars a week, as I do.

I use the moretti quad from here and xikar fluid and these last around a year or so easily but will xikar does stand by there products had a cutter that had gotten dull sent it in before I know it had a brand new one

I have a few Xikar lighters of various types and I bought the new Xikar Verano flat flame a couple of months ago. I think it's the best, so far. You get quite a few more lights/cigars as well as the best touch up lighter IMHO.

And, yep, pretty hard to beat the lifetime warranty.

For scratch resistance, nothing beats the Xikar Stratosphere II. The finish is rubber. It basically never scratches. Love it!

There's also the "wrinkle black" a.k.a. "crinkle black" finish on some Xikars (e.g. Turrim Single, others). It's a tough and textured black that's very hard to scratch.

For cutters, the Xi2 (fiberglass/nylon composite body) and X8 and X875 (resin body) are pretty much immune to scratches too.

For the majority of my Xikars which aren't scratch-resistant like the above models, I simply keep them in cases that protect their finish (e.g. Xikar CigarLocker with the padded spots for cutters and lighters). Works great, protects them and keeps their finishes looking good as new.

Also, remember that the warranty covers the finish (along with anything and everything else). Finish scratched? Swap it for a new one at your nearest dealer, even if it still lights just fine. You can do that forever, over and over again. But, it's easier to keep it in a case that protects it with foam or the like.
