Spent the last several days working my way through the Caldwell sampler of five they’ve been unloading here for a while now..

Caldwell E.S. Midnight Express Robusto - meh, ashy taste, burn issues, maybe I got a dud?

Caldwell Dos Firmas Robusto - liked it, several interesting flavors for a mild cigar, perfect burn and draw, would buy again at the right price

Caldwell The King is Dead Robusto - liked it a lot, interesting flavors, perfect construction...need to find more

Caldwell Eastern Standard Robusto - decent yard gar, nothing special, wouldn’t buy again

Caldwell Long Live the King Corona Gorda - liked it a lot, interesting profile, minor burn issues, but still good enough that I want more.

thanks for the reviews KOTC...

I've only had the Eastern Standard and the Blind Man's Bluff...really liked the Blind Man's Bluff, but had the same reaction as you did for the Eastern Standard...

I'll try the ones you liked...

I've liked both TKID and LLTK but was also unimpressed with the Eastern Standard. Will have to revisit it.

I have not met a Caldwell I didn't like. My top ones are The King is Dead, Long live the King and Anastasia all in the corona sizes.

Yea I love seeking out great smokes and low price points. I think that this cigar boom is the best it has ever been. I will on occasion splurge on rare sticks but its hard to justify filling up your humidor for 2K when you can do it for 300$. Esos pinches culeros valen madre.

Great deal if you can snatch it up for $20. Or less.

I bought the same sampler. Had fun with it. I smoked the Dos Firmas and Eastern, gave away one and have the other two still sitting. It is a real good deal, but my fave one by Caldwell is not in this sampler - Blind Mans Bluff. I think that one sets the tone for the entire line.

Well that depends.
Not a “great” deal for me, because there’s only 3 cigars there that I’d spend money on.

Still a good deal to me. The average Cald is worth 8-10 retail. so 3 for 20 I would do. Maybe I'm being subjective because it is also one of my favorites... but still, I think it holds its weight.

You’re talking to a Honours Graduate of the DP Newell Academy, where retail is a dirty word.

Here’s what they are worth to me:
The two kings at $5/ea
Dos Firmas at $4/ea
The other two worth nothing since I wouldn’t buy them at any price.
I’d maybe pay $15 for another fiver. I already overpaid for two fivers at $17.50/ea, because I wanted to try them, and I like to smoke at least 2 of any cigar before making a judgement.

Retail is a dirty word? Wow... then talk dirty to me.

I love going to the local b&m and getting sticks still. sometimes auctions don't yield the cigars you want or can't find. The classics are still worth their weight to me (retail), but back to the Caldwell...

I get it - they were worth that to you. I think the 5er was worth 15 as well. Caldwell makes a good cigar, the quality outweighs a lot of other boutiques. I have also overbid on these on the site just to try them. I would pay 15 again.

I've not had a single Caldwell I felt I needed to try again. I've had maybe 5 different ones, didn't care for em. All had a very dry astringent profile that immediately wrecks it for me.

They were well made and I appreciate them as a good cigar, but not for me.

I hijacked her account last year, but you folks already knew that. Just to show you fine people that I'm the same old cheep SOB I've always been, you are all still way overpaying for your cigars. Oh, and yes, IMO the BMB is best of the bunch. It's one of the few cigars I'll pay up to $3 for, lol.
