I picked up a new Miller 252 with a 30amp spool gun and two bottles. Now I'm on the hunt for a nice ac-dc Tig.
I need the Tig so I can install a cage in the Chevelle.
Anyways I really enjoy welding. It's nice to be left alone in the shop and burn some wire.

Just imagine the tie rod guards you could fabricate with a nice tig torch

For a straight TIG, I like the Miller 161 for size and portability and I can run it on a 20 amp 120v circuit in the field or even off a small generator.

Combo machines, I find the ESAB Rebel machines to be pretty damn impressive. Lot of good software in there.They make crappy welders look good.

But nothing says "I'm a bad mofo" like a 4130 chromoly cage done right with a Meco or a DHC torch. Both very unique, and very versatile. I've welded stuff with them that you don't normally think of as a candidate for oxy-acetylene. Don't waste your money on the Cobra regulators though, you can get victor or harris regulators that work just as well, you just might need to swap out the LP gauge for one with more markers at the low end.

I've done my share but it was many years ago.... Last time I welded it involved a couple tubes of chit.. 😟

I used to teach stick welding and aluminum TIG welding, but we used huge industrial three phase equipment. The latest rigs are much different and have capabilities beyond older equipment. I will say, buy once cry once, get the best rig you can afford for the most common welds you're going to make. If you're going to be doing a lot of welding consider duty cycles as well as used commercial equipment, it sometimes sells for pennys on the dollar.
