I only had the Cain Daytonas when they first came out (OR, Original Release).

They were weak and boring to me. Like a Cain F minus 75% of the power, body and flavor.

Cain Straight Ligero was a scrumptious, nicotine bomber. (Back in 2015)

#4 was the only Daytona I liked

If I remember right, "Cain Straight Ligero" is a generic umbrella term that can apply to any Cain blend.

In order of strength, the blends were:

Cain Daytona (mild)
Cain Habano and Cain Maduro (strong)
Cain F (very strong)

"F" is short for "Fuerte", Spanish for "strong".

IMO, the Cain Maduro was a harshness-bomb when new, but turned great after an extended nap (3-5 years or more). The Cain Habano was good when new, and better when aged. The Cain F was excellent when new, and even better when aged.

Cain F is the standout of them all, IMO.

Please note this intel/opinion is for 2010 to about 2016 Cains. I haven't bought any since, because by 2016 I had a silly number of them.

I have no idea how today's Cains are. I'd recommend buying a modest number for testing purposes before laying in a big supply (same advice as for any cigar you're unfamiliar with, or any cigar you were only familiar with years ago, because blends can and do change).

Pretty sure it was the F then. And it F’ed me up. I was deployed at the time. I remember it because I was pretty wobbly going back to my room. It was part of the “fill the cooler” headed up by Abrignac for me and my deployed crews. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Cain Daytona = meh

I've had so many bad experiences with anything Oliva in the last few years that they are on my 'do not buy' list.

First one I had was when they were released about 6-7 years ago? Given to me by one TZ at a herf at my place. I thought it was pretty good but then, it was free.:-k

I don't buy many non-CC anymore, but the Cain F Lanceros are still a staple in my rotation. If you hunt a little bit, you can get them for cheap. I keep meaning to revisit the whole Cain line though, as I once really liked the Cain Maduro with some age. Didn't they also have a Cain Daytona Lanceros at one point? Anyone try it?

I like the Cain F Robusto (5.7x50) the best of the entire Cain line.

By the way, years back, CI was selling "Nicaraguan Ligero-Laced 2nds" that were not officially described as, but totally seemed to be, Cains in all respects except missing a band. The sizes were identical (including the oddball-length 5.7-inch Robusto) and the look, flavor, construction and burn were all identical. They could be had for $27.50 for a 15-pack, ordinary price, and you could stack codes and discounts on top of that. Insanely cheap for Cains. I bought a schitt-ton. Still have lots and lots of them left today. Crazy-great, "stock up lads!" sort of pricing, and stock up I did.

If I remember right, you could order H, M or F bundles, which meant Cain Habano, Maduro and F, respectively. Later they apparently did an "undocumented expansion" of the H to include Cain Infernos as well as Cain Habanos. Infernos are a house brand Oliva makes for the "very well-known" cigar shop. I remember being at CI's retail store and checking the undersides of the H bundles for the handwritten tag that would either read "H" (Cain Habano) or "INF" (Inferno). Both tasted very similar, which is probably why they were both just lumped together under "H".

Recently I saw that the "Nicaraguan Ligero Laced 2nds" were back after years of being unavailable, but I have no idea if they're still Cains/Infernos, or something else entirely. The price, which had risen from $27.50 to considerably higher ($34 or so) before the original run ended, had suddenly dropped back down to $27.50 with the re-launch, so I question if they're the same.

If you want to find out, order a bundle and evaluate them yourself.

So now I ended up looking at the CI catalog, and they have the Oliva seconds. Anyone know if the Liga V lances and Coronas are really the V serie lances and no. 4's?

But, IIRC there where more than a handful of better than average to great cigars in the box that got sent over since I couldn't find a cooler big enough to hold all the smokes your cigar family sent to your unit.
