I'm usually pretty good with the whole technology thingy, but I know my limits.

My parents want a small television in their kitchen.
They had an olde tyme style tv and it crapped the bed.

Mom is pushing 80 and she'll mostly be watching news, etc.
More of a background soundtrack than actual watching, but she won't switch to radio news. Plus she gets to put on her game shows in the evening, so a TV is useful.

They have cable service. Verizon Fios, to be exact.
Coax to the kitchen.

I'm thinking of an under cabinet mount, but I only find ones with DVD and it makes the base bulkier than needed.
So first question is: does anyone know of a good, slim under cabinet television that would fold flat?

But I also got to thinking.
What about these facebook type portals? A screen that would allow her to access the web, music and even skype type correspondence. She loves Alexa so it's not too big a task to teach her.
BUT.
Will these type of monitors also function as a TV?
Through standard cable, or only through some sort of fire stick?
Television is still the main objective here.

TMK most of the portal type screens do not have cable hookup. U would need to get some sort of adapter box.

If they get internet through their cable, you could add a wireless router and go with a roku or firestick to a small flat screen mounted on the wall.

Used to have an under cabinet mounted one that folded down when you needed. Think it was Sony but don't know if they've kept a similar model around

Sony made one in the past. Not sure they are still in production. The new tv’s are so thin. Don’t take up much room. Bet you could find space for a small unit on the countertop or wall mounted like a picture

If they want to watch netflix or amazon movies, they would go to the den and watch on the larger TV.
this is just kitchen for typical network daily programs.

A HDTV antenna will pull in locals. They make some so small you don't even see them.
