For the first time, I THiNK my taxes are simple enough to file online.
Who is da best? TurboTax? H&R Block? CreditKarma? Or?
Anyone use any of these?

Over the years, I've used Turbo, HR Block, Tax Slayer, and whatever it was that Block absorbed years ago...Intuit, maybe?

I used to use three each year up until the 'pay for it part', and go-live with the one that gave us the lowest tax bill. All three were ALWAYS different. When we started needing small business stuff, HR Block was consistently easiest. So, I just use it now...for the last three years or so. The convenience of them having all prior year data is valuable to me...especially stuff like cost basis for various instruments, and depreciation data for multiple pieces of equipment.

So...I say, run through a couple/few for free and see what is working for you. And then just use the same one for a few years until its time to test the waters again.

This is sage advice.

Other programs probabley do the same thing, but I use Turbotax since they can log into your financial company, download the various 1099 forms and input the data for you. It doesn't store user ID or passwords, you have to input them each time you use that feature.

As someone else mentioned in a similar thread, after the first year you just update the numbers and file, easy.

I started out years ago using Personal Tax Edge by Parson Technology. When the company was acquired by Intuit, and the program was renamed Turbo Tax, I continued to use it. A few years back, Intuit pulled multiple standard features out of their program, and required you to either upgrade or pay an additional fee for these features. Around the same time Intuit pulled the same crap with the QuickBooks program I had been using for years for my business. I jumped ship and went to H & R Block. So did a lot of others. The H & R Block program did everything Turbo Tax did for less money. It even imported my previous year's Turbo Tax files. After losing a ton of customers to their greed, Intuit put the features back into their program, but I will not return to them out of principle. H & R Block sent me a coupon this year, and I was able to pick up their program for $19.95. I do taxes for 7 family members each year. Keep in mind that both Block and Turbo Tax charge a fee for electronic filing of your State return, but you can print it and mail for no extra charge. You are also limited by IRS law to 5 electronic Federal filings per year.

Free Tax USA is what I've been using. I like it just fine. Fed is free and states are like 12 bucks.

Always liked the security of using an accountant, especially with business returns. Plus there's an actual person in your corner if God-forbid there is a problem with an audit.

Never trusted the free online options. And we've had better filings with an accountant over doing it ourselves. My son files his EZ form online with HR - he has no deductibles, mortgage interest, capital gains, etc and he is still our dependent.

I don't believe in tax refunds. Some consider it a form of savings, but I look at it as an interest-free loan to the guberment. I would rather invest the extra money in an interest bearing account, mutual funds, or stocks. But that's just what we prefer - I realize it's not for everyone.

The Commie 13 doesn't file taxes. We get taxes.

I also used TurboTax previously. The cost went up enough to be a bit painful on me same as DP said and I found HR Block to be cheapest when I shopped so went with them. Been the same for a few years so haven’t price compared as the time to enter all the saved information in a different software is time consuming vs. the payoff of maybe someone is a couple bucks cheaper.

I been using turbotax pretty much since it was a thing. I remember using it and printing my returns to mail in. Still do that with state though.

I paid an accountant once. Really wasn't any easier.

Last year, I used the online version instead of loading a disk on my computer that saves the info.
I couldn't print my state (owed state so last minute remittance) due to a printer ink issue, so when I went back to print it TurboTax wouldn't let me access it. They wanted me to pay them for the program, that I had already used and that they were claiming was Free,Free,Free...

I did the form myself...

This year, I got the disk again and entered it onto my computer and filled it out. I ended up owing state $8. I'll just pay them to electronically file it. $20... OK screw it, I'll be done with it...

Sure... Oh, that'll be $40 more. They wanted me to pay $60 to pay $8!

To be able to use the electronic filing, federal and state, you just need your adjusted gross income from last year to prove you're you... Can't get access to it because you wouldn't allow me last year so I spend the better part of an hour trying and failing to sign-on to get it. In a big automated phone loop trying to get ahold of someone to help with it, never successful, finally site works as it should and I get on and get it, but still unable to print last years info for records...

I'm not using TurboTax any more. They lost a customer
