My wife and I just picked up our CHPs on Friday. I'm trying to decide between my Glock 27 (.40), H&K UPS compact (.357 Sig) or Tarus PT-145 (.45 ACP). I'm going to have to spend some time at the range with all 3 before I decide. Right now I'm leaning toward the USP. Around the house and property I usually open carry a Glock 31 (full size .357 Sig) or a Ruger .44 mag, especially when I'm outside smoking a cigar before sunrise or after sunset (bear country). My wife originally thought she wanted one of those small 5 shot .38 revolers, but after spending several hours at the range, she now has confidence in a semi-auto. We'll be looking at some compact 9 mms for her.
Before the virus madness, our main reason for getting our CHPs was to carry on long hikes. NC permits CC in Federal and State parks, but forbids open carry. We do a lot of the "back country" trails where you might run across one or two other folk on a 3 - 6 hour hike. We wouldn't want to be 3 hours from the trail head and run across a 2 or 4 legged predator unarmed.
