So for comparison what is the rate for heart disease, trauma, etc. for the same time period? What is the rate if you remove metropolitan areas from the calculation? I may believe your number but I don't really equate a relevance to it.

I understand Dan. While it is a sad and terrible statistic it seems to have more emotional effect than having any value regarding policy. A quick google says that a death from cardiovascular disease occurs in the US every 37 seconds according to the CDC. Maybe we should permanently close all fast food joints. Outlaw potato chips and cigarettes.

No, because those are personal choices that predominantly affect the user and not the general public. While there's tangential effects to everyone, its not comparable to covid.
