So my 7 year old son has been bullied for the better part of 4 months so I taught him how to punch and told him if someone hits him to punch them in the face...

Fast forward to this evening one of said bullies knocks on my door to tell on Liam for punching him (he had a bloody nose). Turns out he hit my son so my son punched him square in the nose.

Proud father moment

Shame on you, teaching your son violence! He should just continue to take the beating! Just like the cops should just let the criminals go if they run away!!

Good on you.My son was always on the smaller side being half Philippino, but none of the little bully bastards ever had the balls to **** with him.He spent most of his school years as a leader, yes he led the pranksters and the jocks,Captain of his HS baseball and football team from his sophomore year on.Just glad to see you aren't raising no snowflake.

I am outraged at the usage of the term snowflake because.....oh well, another moment brought to you by COVID 19.

Good for you and good for him!

Capt. Mike - maybe, at some point, have your son take up a martial art. I started taking karate around 10 or 11 but it was always for self-defense. Always avoided confrontation so never had to use it but knew if push came to shove, I would never have to back down from anything either.

I had him in martial arts as a kid and it was more of a “fun” thing and was never taken seriously. We never had bully issues until recently so I bought him boxing gloves and taught him how to properly punch. He finally used it =d>

Sometimes too young is too soon.

For my experience, ten or 11 was just about right. Could understand the philosophy of the art and the control I needed to use. My dojo and instructors were old school (...think Mr. Miyagi...) except for a couple of them but they worked us HARD! I'm sure I would have quit if I were younger. Still, love the fact that your son didn't back down and used Dad's teachings!

Oh I did. I have him a high five and said you will never get in trouble if you don’t swing first.

Fine job!!

I've already told my granddaughter that's 10 that I would teach her and her little brother to box if needed, hehe. I usually visit them at school, so there's that, everyone seems to know they have a crazy Grandpa. Plus, the barely 3 year old grandson is gonna be a BIG bruiser! I'm just glad he's a kind natured fella. He could be a handful if he was bad! He doesn't even flinch or jump if I try to wait for him around the corner and jump out, LOL. He fell and we didn't see it, just the blood in his mouth, so a few days later, he was at his other Grandma's and they didn't even notice that he had pulled on of his top front teeth out because he loosened it falling over here. No crying, no complaining, then a day or so later, he pulled the one beside it?!?! I had to explain to him the he needs to leave his teeth in for now, LMAO! He just grins and shows his gap.

I agree with the martial arts training at around 10-12 years of age. Our son had anger issues when he was younger. Had him attend a dojo for a few years. Great experience. Taught him lots of self control as well as respect for family and parents.

Standing up for one's self is a good life lesson. Better to learn early and teach the bullies early too.
