Last night while chitfaced drunk I decided to sell an old bike on Facebook marketplace. 1972 Schwinn Stingray with a Schwinn Krate front end. Single speed, not the nutbuster.

I dug it out of my grandparents shed in 96. It was painted black, no seat, no pedals, no fenders. I cleaned the paint off with gasoline soaked rags. It was yellow. Couple years later Schwinn made a reproduction bike like this. I bought a new seat, sissy bar, pedals, fenders, and tires with my paper route money. Rode it a little bit but it was my kiddy hot rod, only dry sunny days and rode gently.

Through several moves and even 3 months of living in my car, I still kept it. It was my most prized possession for a long time. I kept it clean, regularly waxed it. When I bought my house and was moving storage unit to here, wife suggested throwing away that old bike. I remember being quite angry about that. I told her it had huge sentimental value.

But then I put it in the shed and forgot about it for a decade. Only reason I pulled it out was to try to salvage the crank bearings for the boy's bike. They didn't fit, and the bike sat in the garage. It had rusted and the tires rotted. I thought about cleaning it up and hanging it on the basement wall but its a memento of my past, it meant a lot to me during those times but I'm living an entirely different life and the sentimental value had waned.

Last night I took one crappy picture and listed it for sale around midnight for $150 hoping to get $100. I know there's a market for them, but didn't realize how active that market is. One guy messaged me immediately, said he'd pickup around 9am. I sent him my number and said text or call in the morning when you're close.

Woke up to over 30 messages, two people sent money, several people offered $3-500 to ship the front wheel. But id already agreed to a sale.

Guy came, looked at the serial number and basically told me "you don't know what you got" and gave me $200 for the bike we agreed to sell for $150. I told him I'm glad you know what it is cause now I got $200 and more room in my shed. Everybody happy.

HA, I had one in mind yesterday, but sadly, I was too busy this morning to snag this one, hehe. plus, ya'll been churning through these rather quickly, hehe

I've won my fair share of 500's. Not right for me to win one now. I make sure to stop in every few months to check on friends. Life is busy taking care of an 8 year old MiniSledn. The Patriarch Sledn has his hands full with the teenSledn on the job sites for a bit.
