What are y’all’s thoughts on aging of Opus X? I have a box of Opus X #2 Belicoso from 2007’ish; to me they don’t have the full flavor that they used to have. Any thoughts? “Fresh Opus” seem to hit me in the sweet spot.

I prefer younger opus as well... recently smoked a pretty old (possibly OR) double corona, and while it was still very enjoyable, it wasn't until the final third that it really started to show some of the classic pepper/spice that a young opus shows...

That being said, I'm certain there are a number of people who prefer let that pepper kick die down for a few years before enjoying... it's like I say, smoke what I like and like what I smoke... otherwise Christmas is gonna come around and you're gonna have to make a special trip out just for my gift...

I think Fuente puts them out too soon, I prefer aged but it really depends on the vitola.

It’s an organic product so saying every year should be aged the same is kinda silly.

I should retract my previous statement... I don't know that I like fresh opus, I just don't like them aged to the point where they lose their kick...

I'm not a fan of young Opus. Depending on the vitola I think they improve for many years. I still have a partial box of Power Rangers from 2003 and they are still strong little puppies. If they lose much of their flavor and spice within a few years something if amiss in your aging humi setup.

Perfecxion no. 2 and 4’s are my favorite aged opus. They begin to get this raspberry note after a few years on them. 3-5 years is perfect on these.

I prefer the freshies, myself... same with the Ashton VSG's. I like them fresh.

the memorable OX have been the well aged ones...imho, regardless of size, the fresher (ROTT to 2-3 years is considered fresh) all seem to be lacking the complexity and depth of flavors compared to the well aged ones

^ the problem I have is the “green” fresh Opus taste, sour not quite acrid
