Back in the early 2000’s, say pre-2005, when I was smoking cigars more regularly, I always enjoyed the taste of Perdomo cigars, but I felt like their construction was lacking. All the ones I smoked seemed loosely packed and had terrible burns. I’ve pretty avoided them since then because of those experiences. Did other find the same at that time? Have they improved their construction since?

If you were smoking cigars then you'd know there are certain families that take crop to shelf seriously. Padron, Fuente and Perdomo to name a few.

I admittedly haven't smoke much Perdomo over the last couple years, but Perdomo cigars were a staple of mine, and poorly constructed was never a word I'd use to describe them. Even their "Seconds" were quite good as I recall (especially those sweet ESV 91 seconds).

Seriously check out their 10th Anny Maduro and Sungrown...they're out of this world good!

I've seen you sing their praises, I used to smoke alot of the older 10Anni maddies with the red band, and they were one of the better (if just considering the price range they were going for back then, likely the best of) maduro's out there, so I'll have to pick up some of the recent stock and give them a whirl again. Been looking at the Champagne's again too, as I used to love those with coffee in the morning and haven't had any in ages.

over the years I've liked nearly all the Perdomo cigars that I've tried, including some of their Small Batch, Estate Selection Vintage, Edicion de Silvio, 10th Anniversary, Lot 23 and Champagne...all were solidly constructed

Lot 23 is one of my go to value cigars because of its superb construction. I also enjoy their ESV and 20th Anniversary. I hop back and forth between the Maduro and SG lines, but overall I think the SG is my favorite. I’ve never really had an issue with their construction or burn. Give them a try, I don’t think you’ll find the same issues you were having.

Sounds like a consensus. I need to get some Perdomo's in my humidor! I was just looking at some Lot 23's... hmmm...

when I first started smoking cigars seriously, more than 10 years ago, there were a few brands that seemed to have construction issues: Alec Bradley Tempus, Torano Exodus 1959 and La Aroma De Cuba Edicion Especial...all were good tasting, but more than a few tunneled, canoed or were plugged...

not true for Perdomos, and I enjoyed the Champagne and Champagne Noir in those days

They adopted draw testing each cigar a long time ago, and I have t seen any poorly rolled Perdomos that weren’t a 4x40 little guy.

Had an Edicion de Silvio way back when DMV sent me a bag o' gold in my noob trade. One and only Perdomo I enjoyed.

Found out about the Lot 23’s here. Smoked quite a few. Don’t recall any burn issuers at all. Smoked a Champagne the other day that was gifted by a friend. Perfect burn.

I too enjoy the lot 23 sun grown. Never had a maduro. I even like the fresco. Haven’t had a bad perdomo come to think of it

Maybe what I'm remembering was before they started draw testing... Haven't had a Perdomo since around 2003/2004.

Eh.........Perdomo cigars are decent enough, but priced too high for what they deliver imho.
Stopped buying them long ago simply because there were too many better options (for me) at the same price, or less.
There’s never been a Perdomo I “had to have”...

The price is hard to argue now, they used to be incredibly competitive pricewise, these days not so much. I do wish they would get away from standardized sizes as well, they do have a short robusto and a short corona but they don’t have a standard corona or a corona gorda or a lancero or a lonsdale.....many of their lines are _x54 or _x60

Had a chat with Nick about that he said he WISHED people bought them because they’re cheaper to make. Didn’t make sense to me, when you have every cigar (practically) it’s got to be easier production and training wise.....but Nick is a good guy.

true about the larger ring gauge of Perdomo cigars...I prefer 50 RG or less...

You can still readily find their Cabinet Sellecion Cameroon petite coronas at shops, and they’re excellent. Not as good as when Nicks family member whom was friends with the prominent family that grows “true Cameroon” was still with Perdomo.
