I don't know why I am thinking about this but...

Lets just say there is a log. And the log gets cut in half as it is falling in to the water. How is it possible that one half would float and the other would sink prior to both getting sucked in to the rapids/whirlpool?

There has to be an explanation.

The FBI-SSG tied Mr Jones to the half that sank first.

It looked like his son Cornwallace was tied to the other though, and it never sank. Just floated to the vortex.

Seriously though. There must be a scientific explanation.

Thinking that the half that floated is rotted out and lost much of the moisture within the wood while the half that sinks is still dense and heavy.

Depends on what you are eating, and how good you IG tract bacteria is.

Maybe you should eat some Greek yogurt and a salad?

Impacted? Dense sludge stuck until finally forced out by the lighter stuff. So, seemingly one log but variety in the food creating it.

In theory the end closest to the stump would retain more water from the act of drinking. Therefor making it more dense. That would cause it to sink unless it had many years to dry. Logs don’t dry well unless cut.
