No.
Not for me. Not for us older folks.
I want all my loved ones in the at-risk demographics to get vaccinated.
I've got my first already.

But I got a text from my boy the other night.
He's 20.
Asking if he should get the Pfizer or the one-and-done J&J.
Easy answer from me: Ask your sister. The one's that a nurse.

But it got me to thinking.
Should we be giving the vaccine to healthy young people?
We truly don't know the long term effects of the vaccine.

The FDA allows the use of the vaccine through their emergency protocol.
But they fall short of stamping it with an actual approval.

If it's 100% safe it would be approved by now.
It's assumed to be safe, and data suggests no immediate issues.
But a 20 year old kid has a lot of life left to live.
This is our first pandemic in the social media age of conformity.

The next bad virus that hits will likely have a similar response from our brow-beaten nation: Mask up and get the vaccine.

So it will be a second vaccine.
And probably a third. Before he turns 30.

With zero long term studies on how it will affect HIS kids as he passes along the mRNA dohickeys (technical term).

So.
Should the young be taking the vaccine?

Joe, I will give you a suggestion rather than an answer. Read up on Covid Long Haul, Long Haul, or PASC. All the same thing. Hopefully this will give you some useful information.

this is not a Trump knock, but if he's gonna get praised for miraculously getting vaccines to the market by cutting out all the red tape liberal safeguard bullchit, maybe this is the type of question that should have been asked a while ago.

or maybe a while ago what should have been asked is why does the process have to take a while...normally?

NOW people are gonna worry about unanswered scientific research?

Too late for regrets.

But the good news is this is not really new ground. Even though so many hate it, we have people here who have been correct about the (near) decade theses vaccines have been in development.

Science. not perfectly on time, but better than politics.

I'd say get the one-and-done J&J.

The two shot versions have more side effects in younger people.

Look at the survival rate for 20 yr olds. I think I'd let my natural system fight it off rather than getting the shot. In this case I'd trust mother nature over a fast tracked human creation.

I keep hearing of a "vaccine passport" and restrictions on people who don't get the shots. 100% unconstitutional in the USA.

If a woman has a "right to choose" whether or not she can kill a life (her body her choice, according to R v W, right?) then I have an absolute right not to take a vaccine I do not trust... from a gov't I trust even less... without excessive gov't restrictions.

These new covid varriants are way more viralent and spread easily....if he is a marathon runner, totally in shape, no heart disease family history and no diabetes , NO ASTHMA...

He could skate through this no problem...

If he is overweight, A SMOKER, ASTHMATIC, diabetic and has heart disease in the family tree...go get the J&J SHOT PRONTO

Frank,
Don't use hindsight as your guide.

A year ago when Trump said the vaccine would be available by year's end, the left laughed. You included. We were told that science didn't work that way. Vaccines took time. No way we could get results that fast.

Now you talk about "science" and a decade of knowledge.
Where the f*ck was this knowledge a year ago?
Why didn't Fauci say we have the technology in our back pocket and it should only take a year to get things rolling?

If kids were in danger from the virus then the long term effects are worth the risk. That's why people get vaccines. Risk/reward is the driving force.

And maybe one of the new strains will eventually target the young.
Again, this would make the decision easy.

But to just dole it out because of the politics, and to make it worse by citing "science" whenever convenient is poor form.
I'm not asking about vaccines for the young people in America.
I'm asking my own kids.

Tell me it's safe for my 20 year old boy. Give me 100% certainty that he'll never have long term effects. Put a god damn official FDA approval on it.
THEN you can cite "science".

Lol you can't get a 100% certainty that the food your boy eats and the water he drinks won't ever give him long term side effects.... in fact, I'll go a step further... I can actually 100% guarantee your boy will have long term side effects from the food he eats and the water he drinks... assuming corona doesn't kill him first...

I heard the side effects from the vaccine are kinda plain vanilla side effects.

I was at a winery yesterday and one of the variants almost got me but I followed the science and kept my mask on until I sat down. I outsmart the ‘Rona.
