Dogs got sick the other day... we knew they'd eaten something... today we found chocolate wrappers that had been thrown over the back fence...

Pretty sure we know who did it, but now we have to start recording our alley in case it happens again...

Looking for at least 4 cameras... want a device that stores the video as opposed to just real time monitoring...

I know absolutely nothing... talk to me like I'm a stoned child with mild aspergers...

I use blink cameras. They are pretty good quality. They now have (I haven't upgraded yet) ones you can talk through if needed. They store the video until space is full or you delete it. They work only (as far as I know) motion detection and had good night vision. I like it cause it's free storage gets a decent amount of videos. I use 4 motion cameras and some I use for live. They are small and easy to install they just require internet connection.

I want 24/7 recording, not motion activated... I know storage of that can be costly but I'm OK with that for now....

Google nest camera makes an outdoor one that goes both ways (giggity) 24/7 or motion to a cloud based service. Not sure on cost or how much space. I know they are good quality cameras but I have no personal experience with them.

How well lit is your yard at night?

Opel, Anything less than 4K is going to have a tough time reading a license plate or seeing detail from an appreciable distance, let alone at night. Make sure you can return it if it does not give you the image quality you need in the conditions you have.

Also, those cameras are wired, so you will need to run cable to their locations. Just a consideration.

Why would people want to hurt dogs? It isn't the dog's fault... Dogs bark and dig and pee and poop. It's the owners that need to control them from being a nuisance to others.

Ain't the dog's fault it's a dog.

Place land mines in the alley.

these people like to get drunk and loud with their friends in the backyard every afternoon... whatever, none of my business...

when one of them drunkenly wanders into the alley separating our houses or drunkenly screams at the top of their lungs - both of these things happening several times a day - it becomes my business to the point that I won't stop the dogs from barking...

oddly enough, their dog barks non stop when they aren't home... not sure if they know it or not, but it's ironic...

unfortunately, it's come to surveillance... probably won't even need to hook the cameras up... seeing them will likely be deterrence enough to prevent them from doing it again...

Thoughts on this set up? I'll check the Google nest...

Doesn't look bad to me. Wired is gonna be better quality IMO. I prefer the ease of wireless but the quality is a little less.

Would motion activated lights help? In the cloak of darkness, people are more apt to do stupid / bad stuff, not so much when a light suddenly comes on and is shining on them.

https://www.harborfreight.com/4-channel-wireless-surveillance-system-with-2-cameras-63842.html

It's not noted about storage other than 256GB card. Would be nice to have it go to like a 2 TB external hard drive.

Just throw his sh*t in the alley, after they step in it or smell it, they'll move on. If not get the surveillance system

It worked on kids cutting threw my yard.

I have Zmodo wireless cameras that work pretty well. About $50/year for seven days of storage. They run continuously and upload the cloud. You can access the last 7 days and save clips or pictures. They do more, but 7 days was good enough.
