Since moving to a free state that recognize their citizen's right to defend themselves, I've been carrying a H&K USP in .357 Sig, (10 +1) IWB at 5 O'clock. Works well for winter carry, but in T-shirt and shorts season, switched out to a much smaller Taurus PT-145 (10+1 .45 ACP). Trigger on the Taurus s*cks. Very long double action pull and long reset. So this spring went shopping for a new summer pistol. My wife carries one of the new double stack micro 9s. A Sig P365 (10+1). So, I head to the gun shop to check out their selection of Sig P365s, Hellcats, and M&P shields. While there (last May), I spot a new Ruger micro 9 in the case. The Ruger Max 9. Basically a vastly improved LC9. 12+1 capacity, with Tritium Fiber Optic sites standard. The slide is factory precut for red dot optics. Also it didn't hurt that it was $100-$150 less expensive then the others.

Wow, what a sweet shooter. Fantastic trigger with a short reset and accurate as all get out. Paired it up with a Desantis pocket holster. Disappears in my front jean pocket. I never realized that pocket carry could be so comfortable. I can draw the gun with one hand in less then a second. Much faster then IWB. I may not go back to the H&K this winter.

For deep carry with thin fabric shorts, I'm looking at the new Ruger LCP Max. An improved LCP2. 10+1 .380 ACP in a package 1" shorter and 10 ounces lighter then my Max 9. The problem is, around here they sell the day the dealers get them in stock.

I’ve got a G43 at 5 IWB for deep cover and a G19 with a +5 extension @3 OWB for open carry DFWM while in the outdoors. Love seeing the look on the State Troopers running fish and wildlife doing their “license checks” for the right to fish for the Kings Fish. Last one had ticketed my buddy for long leader which is hilarious as the salmon run has been 💩 this year it would literally be a miracle to land one. He puffed up and looked my license then backed up towards the hill to scurry up to the road. I asked him “aren’t you going to check my leader??” he came back down and put my tri swivel to his forehead and didn’t even look where the hook was at. “Yup you’re ok”….

Shield is a fine weapon, this is a great time to be into the market for a micro compact. There have NEVER been this many great options.

You might want to look at a G43X or G48, leaves plenty of room for ammo $ to practice over a Hellcat. Stock it does have a better trigger though. Glock triggers are an easy fix though.

Yeah you’re not supposed to carry on national parks here either…..

Stogie if you have Glocks already (or still) you should look at Polymer80’s for a lower. They run Gen 3 parts and the grip is a 1911 angle not Glock…..so say you have a Gen 3 G17 you could get a V2 (full sized) P80 lower and install a mag release and front/rear locking block/rails and move your trigger and rear trigger housing over to it the put the slide on. Boom done.

Polymer 80 has a G20/21 kit too…..lower and upper parts kits, and barrels and slides are hard to find right now though.

Roni kits are available for Polymer80’s now too (you have to use a P80 slide though which sucks.

Also, you should look at a Chiappa little badger for a bug out gun. Closed action single shot that’s a great suppressor host when you need dirty deeds done quietly cheap.

The Chiapas is great with a Bowers bitty threaded onto the end and using Gemtech subsonic gets you in and out real quick like and unnoticed...plus it folds in half and can be disguised as a "crutch" with the right equipment...

I know all about the little badger ( since 2013)... 😏😏🤭🤭🤭🤐🤐🤐🤐And I look good with crutches...you get dismissed as harmless and nobody checks you....

Ever watch the original Fredrick Forsyth 1973 FRENCH movie .... "DAY OF THE JACKEL" ???
