I posted this earlier and got no response other than "it's always a dollar higher".
That is not the case.
Its common for the bid to be $2 or even $3 over the current bidders.
Anybody know how it works?

I should probably have said the default bid amount is 2 or 3 bucks higher. Possibly a lower amount would be accepted. Haven't tested that.
