Not unless you take it out now.

I've lost some since the start of the year, but I'm not panicking yet.

I think it fell "500" points....

No big deal....

I was hearing a 17%correction at the very least today....
Or by the end of the week??

That news was B.U.N.K....

SOOOOOO.....

10%of 33,516 is 3,516 points
7%of 33,516 is 2,350 points...

5,866 point drop did not happen today...

Bogus information...

There are "circuit breakers" built in to try to stop runaway drops and panic selling. They were implement after the Black Monday market crash in 1987. Nowadays these circuit breakers are more important since much of the trading done by the big guys is done by computers and Al Gore Rhythms so if $hit starts to drop, it's hard to stop runaway selling.

The current circuit breakers kick in when the S&P 500 drops...
7% in a single day* then it triggers a 15 min halt on all trading.
13% drop in a single day* then it triggers another 15 min halt on all trading.
20% drop in a single day* then triggers a halt on all trading for the rest of the day.

(* if the drops happen after 3:25 PM eastern then trading continues until market close at 4:00 pm)

I need a good one.

Just been letting my 457 sit in the Nationwide account. I've got it in the Fidelity Puritan fund and fixed. Did fine last year... this year I'm takin' a bath. And the water is not warm and soapy.

Your not alone MACS. Everyone has been taking hits this year. The S&P 500 is down about 11% year to date, your Puritan fund is down about 8.5% YTD .

You can get a look at what your Puritan performance, risk, holdings, etc. here.

https://fundresearch.fidelity.com/mutual-funds/composition/316345107

It's 70% US stocks and 30% bonds - a pretty basic cookie cutter set up. The stock weights and holdings that it has pretty much mirrors that of a total US index fund like VTI.

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/VTI/holdings/

Not sure a financial advisor would be able to massage it any better but they'd take extra fees for their service. Since you are retired, some would say to ween off the stocks and put more into the "safe harbor" of bonds. That would be a personal decision whether to say with stocks for potential growth (and potential loss - it works both ways) or to squirrel away more into bonds to reduce risk.

You should also factor in your pension which is a steady fixed source of income and not impacted by market swings.
