Any how, no more marine fish (can't get/cost too much)- he used to have only the best and rarest corrals.

Now it's strictly fresh water including the Tanganyikans I was breeding 35 years ago. Son now wants his own aquarium again and he's paying, so we are starting with lelupi, brichardi, frontosa and julidichromis...

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yep I've canned literally hundreds of quarts of carp over the years.Carp patties put store bought canned salmon patties to shame.

I was very into aquariums in my teens. Still am, but haven't kept one for a few years now and that last one was just a few goldfish in our living room. But at one point I had a huge 150g freshwater live planted Cichlid tank, 35g reef tank with a few small fish, a 20g live rock tank for crabs and featherworms and a pair of fish, another 28g freshwater tropical tank, and a 20g angelfish tank.

Over time the maintenance just became a chore when I already have enough chores so despite scaling back all the way to goldfish we got rid of that tank 3 years ago. The fish are still alive and well at my inlaws house. Someday I would like another. I think I'll do a pond outside before I do another aquarium though. I bought a roll of rubber liner and a filter/pump set a few years ago but my tractor broke and I wasn't gonna dig by hand and then I just forgot about it..

Cabinet underneath held wet/dry filter, protein skimmer r/o filter, uv light, and a refrigeration unit necessary to keep it cool enough for corals- because it used four 95w high-output fluorescent lights that got hot as ****. No water changes for well over a year at one point- just some evaporation to account for.

Used to test the water quality and add necessary nutrients for the invertebrates after doing a bunch of tests with reagents and tubes. for like 10 different micronutrients and such.

It was magnificent. Rare and odd-ball coral variations and colors- better than any tank at Sea World! Then we lost power for 4-5 days and the water temp got up to like 85F and everything died except the live rock. It stunk and there was nothing we could do until we got power back.

So, I just gave up due to heart break... Fast forward about 15 years later and I am about to jump back into Tanganyikans...

The Lake Tanganyikan$, which are gorgeous, were just getting popular when I sold off all my tanks. I had several Discus fish, a piranha, fresh water flying fish, tanks with live plants, tanks with peat moss in them to make the water brown for various Tetras etc. If it was unusual and rare I'd try to find one. When our sons were born, I lost interest and sold all my tanks and fish. I still had a couple snakes/lizards, as well as a collection of rare flowering bulbs, orchids and succulent plants. Now it's just guns and reloading that occupy my time.

If you don't mind, what was the situation?

Of course mine ws very well fed, a dozen goldfish at a time. Chopper recognized me and was calm with main the room with the tank. He was a little more nervous if he saw my wife, but go crazy with a stranger. If I had to reach in his tank for any reason he would swim to the opposite end. When I had to break down his tank for a through cleaning I'd catch him in a new net and there would be several cookie cutter holes in the net when I was done.
