People rest the cigars after getting them to let the humidity even out to the level they prefer. Sometimes it means humidifying dry cigars, but as you see, sometimes it means letting the humidity come down. You could take the cellophane off ones that you want to smoke first, and they will acclimate faster.
Somebody on here said to give them a week of rest in your humidor for each day of travel. That seems like a pretty good rule of thumb.
