the word from the radio voices is he really wants to play but wanted out of Tampa, but Tampa didn't cave to putting him on some retired list which, in the confusing world of NFL, would have allowed him to be a fee agent.

I read earlier today that several sports books are asking for an investigation into TB's un-retirement announcement. It seems that just a couple of days before the news as released there were several "significant' bets placed on Tampa to win the 2023 Super Bowl last week, when Brady was technically still retired and Tampa Bay was a championship 60-1 long shot. According to Westgate (a sports betting outfit) they don't believe these were casual bettors. They would be categorized as "savvy" bettors. The way they describe it - it wasn’t some guy wearing a Tom Brady jersey walking up to the counter in a casino.
