Had to kill my 17yo basset hound. She followed me in a pilot car for years. She was a good girl.
Anyways no biggie just a dog.

Madison was about 18 yrs old when I had to let him go. He was part of my family or we were part of his pack (which ever way you want to look at it). He was there before I had kids. For 12 yrs of my kids' life they always had him by their side. When the kids were young, he would lay in the hallway outside their bedrooms until they fell asleep. When we went for walks he always was on point. We had a neighbor who had a couple unruly dogs and if they came into our yard when the kids were outside playing, Madison would run interference cut them off.
His kidneys were shutting down. He stopped eating, stopped drinking. I had to carry him outside to do his buisness but since nothing was going in, nothing was going out. The vet gave me a few saline bags and I was to stick a needle under his skin between his shoulders 4x a day to get fluids in him and maybe his kidneys would start working again.
After a week of me keeping him alive like that, a friend stopped over and made me face reality. "Look at him, he wants to go. The only reason why his alive is that you won't let him go." The next day, I took him in to the vet for the last time and let him go peacefully.
To me they are more than just an animal, they are members of a family.
Anyways no biggie just a dog... I'm sure she was more than just a dog.
