At most shops, all their full box inventory behind the open boxes on the shelves are normally still shrink wrapped. Usually when I get new full boxes, I take off the shrink wrap prior to storing them in my coolers. The last three boxes I've received decided to keep the shrink wrap on as a test. I'll take the box wrap off in a few months and test the RH. Any thoughts on this? Pros/cons?

Can’t check the contents with the shrink wrap still on.
Also, not sure if the “wrap” they put on the outside of boxes is actually breathable cello.
On some boxes I have received, I’m quite sure it was not cello

I always take off the box wrap, inspect the contents, close up the box, bury in cooler.
Not really understanding why you are even doing this exercise.

Yeah take it off imo. It would need to be breathable cellophane to benefit with it still on and in your humidor. And if it is breathable cello I can't imagine it doing anything significant. If anything I would think it would take longer for humidity to get in as opposed to it being off. I've noticed most boxes I've ordered in the past year or 2 are typically wrapped with a boveda inside. Sometimes the boveda is already dried out though.

Edit: and yeah u should definitely inspect your box as others have mentioned 🇨🇮

Every boveda I’ve found inside is hard. I’m not even convinced wood should be in a humidor. I do have a couple boxes still wrapped. A couple boxes I bought 2 of. I should open them. I’ve been considering dumping all my boxes. Removing all wood. I just don’t see the benefit. With boveda it just seems to me wood just doesn’t help.

I read actual Spanish cedar can help retain and control humidity somewhat but these days with boveda and the myriad of other humidification solutions on the market I just don't see it as necessary. Some like aging in cedar due to the added woody flavor it can get over the years.

Yeah...guess I'll take it off. Was only pondering this as boxes could likely sit wrapped possibly for a year or more at the store/distributor.

Sometimes too many boxes come at once & keeping all the plates spinning prevents timely processing of incoming stowage but yeah...
Unless General sends you 4500 of someone else's LGCs by mistake, (yep, got another shipment of 900 today) you open 'em up
