While early reports indicated that Jankowicz was “evaluating her position” at the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board, she has now officially submitted her letter of resignation.

“With the Board’s work paused and its future uncertain … I have decided to leave DHS to return to my work in the public sphere,” Jankowicz said in a statement released through a spokesperson. “It is deeply disappointing that mischaracterizations of the Board became a distraction from the Department’s vital work, and indeed, along with recent events globally and nationally, embodies why it is necessary.

“I maintain my commitment to building awareness of disinformation’s threats and trust the Department will do the same.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), a huge opponent of Jankowicz and the new department, shared her thoughts on Twitter:

“When we put pressure on this administration, they fold like a house of cards. The so-called Disinformation Governance Board is done. Hopefully Nina figures out another way to get famous. Watch out for that!”

They couldn’t handle the truth.

The Biden administration has “paused” its controversial plans to create a Disinformation Board, causing its would-be leader to resign.

In a statement Wednesday, Nina Jankowicz, the “disinformation expert” tapped to head the panel, said that “[w]ith the Board’s work paused and its future uncertain, and [sic] I have decided to leave DHS [the Department of Homeland Security] to return to my work in the public sphere.” Jankowicz’s departure and the decision to scrap the board was first reported by the Washington Post.

The board had been the subject of weeks of backlash from Republicans, libertarians and even some liberals, who likened the scheme to the Ministry of Truth from George Orwell’s classic novel “1984.”

The Washington Post reported that DHS had decided to stop the board’s work on Monday and Jankowicz had drafted a resignation letter as of Tuesday morning. The outlet added that she had been given the option to stay on in a call with DHS officials Tuesday evening.

I do not need to read more, though I am glad it is falling apart. I felt this would be a tipping point of no return. It is interesting The Ministry of Truth is mentioned. Upon hearing about this that was my first thought.
