I feel like this is dead or a load of bs I was sold when I was kid, two weeks outta high school I got my first job and have kept my nose to the grindstone ever since. Laid off in 2009 in the Great Recession, took the opportunity to get my CDL, always wanted to drive a truck, anyway the last few years I’ve worked well over 300 days a year but never seem to get ahead. Damn I’m tired , but obviously no one gives shít and was raised in the “old school “ way you don’t complain or whine (which I guess i technically I’m here) but damn y’all I’m pushing my breaking point, drink to kill the pain, drinking cause the pain feel like I’m losing my way again, after feeling like things were looking up. As usual I’ll cowboy up dig in my heels and keep givin her hell, but something’s gotta give at some point and it’s gonna be my or my health/body. Thanks for reading my drunk ramblings 🍺

I feel ya, man. Alcohol is most certainly not the solution, though.

It sounds like you already know that.

^^This, and like Macs said, you already know it.
Scale back the booze steadily, until you put together a few days, and then weeks of no booze.
You might be surprised in how things start to look up.
At the very least, you will have more coins in your pocket…

Hang in there plow boy. Nothing wrong with a few drinks here and there. Hell I get completely drunk if I feel like it. Not regular but occasional that’s what I wanna do.

Don’t know if I’ll ever “get ahead” but as long as my bills are paid I’m cool.

The "American Dream" is subjective for sure... one persons dream is another's nightmare and choice of profession and location play a huge part in if a specific person is able to live out that same persons dream life. i have friends that live in a 1 bedroom condo in DC with no kids and love life because they go out to eat, to shows, to clubs/bars and all the other things that city life has to offer. they are happy and and enjoy it. i also have friends that live in DC in the same type of location with the same general jobs/income and hate it. they want to move out to the country on a few acres and live in a tiny house or RV...

One must evaluate the goal and make moves to make it a reality. of coarse not every one is in a position to make those major life changes for various reasons from poor choices when younger, physical disability, etc... if they want to and that is when it really sucks.

whatever YOUR American Dream is i hope you can get some personal clarity, make a plan and execute it to work towards that goal.

as for the drinking, if you want a drink, have one... if you NEED a drink, get help...

I think you can learn alot about "the American Dream" from playing the game Monopoly.

Spoiler - it's not a good dream...

I can say from too many family and friends alike. all they ever found in a bottle was despair and that despair took a giant crap on everyone around them, family and friend alike.

On the positive side, some of the most balanced and happy people I know or have known were recovering alcoholics and/or drug addicts. People that have quit have my undying admiration, they not only recovered themselves but saved those around them as well, it is never a just you situation, except the quitting part, that is all on you.

NA/AA, religion, meditation, etc will work when you're ready. You cannot be a partner, period, it's 100% or nothing.

I think DRG hit the nail on the head. What is YOUR verison of the American Dream? Everyone has a different one. Write down what YOU want, be specific. Then come up with a plan to make it happen.

If debt or financial troubles are keeping you down, read Dave Ramsey's book, "Total Money Makeover" The advice is sound and easy to follow. If you PM me an address I'd be happy to send you a copy.
