Hello and thank you in advance for your replies. I am not really new to smoking cigars, but still haven’t developed my taste enough to discern a lot of the flavor profiles of different cigars. This is where I’d like to ask for your help.
Can anyone tell me what the dominant flavors of the Tatuaje 10th Year Anniversary cigar is. I’ll try to explain the flavor I’m talking about the best I can. To me it is a strong flavor that dominates the feel of the smoke in your mouth. I can taste a slight sweetness and smoothness or creaminess to the smoke, but there’s a flavor there that is a lot more dominate there that I can’t identify, but am wanting so badly to be able to identify so I can buy cigars with a similar flavor profile. I don’t know if it’s a earthy flavor, a leathery flavor, a nutty flavor, coffee or espresso, or maybe even a chocolate or cocoa flavor, but it definitely dominates all other flavors in the smoke.
I have tasted it to lesser degrees in some other cigars like the Oliva V Series, Rocky Patel The Edge Maduro, Punch Signature, and Partagas. But as mentioned, the taste I’m looking for is much stronger and bolder in the Tatuaje.
As much as I love the Tatuaje 10th Anniversary, at nearly $200 for a box of 20, it’s a little too expensive for me to smoke those every day. I would like to find a more affordable cigar that could be an everyday smoke that at least tastes similar. Do you all have any suggestions on some I could try that may taste similar to the Tatuaje. I have tried several, actually too many to name, but haven’t found anything that has that same dominant taste that I’m looking for. I’m hoping some of you all with superior knowledge to mine may be able to point me in the right direction. Again, thank you for any help you can offer.

rmilam4, I’m a noob but I’ve smoked a few cigars. The 10th Anniversary Tat has an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. I suggest that you search for cigars that use that specific wrapper. Also, Rocky Patel can be very hit and miss. I still have a few but I quit buying them because in a five pack I might get 1 or 2 decent cigars but 3 or 4 would be lousy. This happened to me over and over again with several of RP blends. Same with Gurkha. I will look in my tasting notes and try to find something specific to recommend. Many of the brothers here can help you out. Try checking out the “What are you azzhats smoking 1,000,000” thread. You can see a lot of different cigars with smokers comments and cigar discussion is what it’s all about.

Also, out of respect for CBid hosting this board we don’t mention the other sites save Cigar International - it’s the same owner. But you can PM folks to get the names of the sites or you may be able to pick up on the hints, such as “the monkey page”, etc.. I mention this because we keep each other apprised on good sales we come across.

I’ll shut up now and let the more experienced brothers give you some ideas. I hope you’ll stick around and join in the conversation.

I don’t know what specific flavor you’re referring to, everyone’s tastes are different.

What I would say is, you’re talking about Med+-Full Nicaraguan cigar with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper…..you can look for the closest match to that. Probably Olivia MB3 or Olivia O is closest outside any Pepin Garcia offerings.

I would say try a Tatuaje Petite Cazadores Reserva, and send Cheno some cigars.

Can anyone tell me what the dominant flavors of the Tatuaje 10th Year Anniversary cigar is. Been awhile since I smoked one but even then, I don't have anything in my notes that describes flavors. The Reserva version had, to me, more of the chocolate taste you referenced. However, iffin' you're really looking for that earthy, chocolate flavor, mebbe try an Arturo Fuente Anejo #46 or an AF Hemingway Maduro in any one of the vitolas.
I have tasted it to lesser degrees in some other cigars like the Oliva V Series, Rocky Patel The Edge Maduro, Punch Signature, and Partagas. But as mentioned, the taste I’m looking for is much stronger and bolder in the Tatuaje.

Suggestion - treat yourself and get that box of Tat 10ths. That way you'll always have the cigar that you love while you're searching for the next best thing. Good luck!

Thank you all for the replies. I have tried the Pepin Garcia Black label and the Olivia (either O or V) and both of those had hints of the taste that I'm seeking. If I remember correctly, the RP Edge also had some of it, but it's been awhile.
This is frustrating to me 🙂 When I taste a cigar that has hints of that flavor that dominates the flavor of the Tatuaje, I read reviews of it and search it's flavor profile online trying to Identify what it might be so I can explore more cigars with similar flavor profiles and stop spending so much money on cigars that I don't really care for the flavor profile. But when I look up the reviews and flavor profiles of other cigars that have hints of the same flavor profile, I read things like earthy, cocoa, leather, ect. and it's like reading greek to me. I know what those things are and I suppose I have an idea of what they may taste like, but I can't identify them in a cigar while smoking it.

Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 has a Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper. You can get these at great prices on CBid. The falling prices auction has an excellent opportunity for 10 packs and boxes right now. This is a cigar that I don’t smoke ROTT but after a few months rest it is fantastic IMO.
Montesino Maduro might be another one to check out. It is a damn good cigar with some of those flavors but that’s just my opinion.
Aging Room Quattro can be had on a good sale for a decent price and the longer it rests in the humidor at proper RH the better it tastes.

I don’t like Partagas cigars much but the Partagas Black has a strong salinity and savor to it that I find very appealing. Not sure if you’re into that but they can be found at good prices here.

Thank you. I have never really checked CigarBid out before I found this forum while searching for the answers I posted about. I've checked it out fairly well tonight and placed bids on several auctions. It seems like I good place to look in the future where you can potentially get cigars at a decent price......... if my bids hold up. I've just always ordered from the three big online places. Never knew a cigar auction site existed.

There's a few online auction sites, and they're directly related to big online sites. CI a.k a. The Mothership owns this one. The Well Known site has the one with the auctioneer, and the Junior site has Junior auctions.

CBid probably has about 100-150 "big" brand offerings that regularly auction at low(ish) and sometimes very low prices. These same smokes occasionally get bid up to numbers that can be beat other places. So it's a bit hit or miss. Still, there are at times auctions for something a little more interesting

FYI look at the way shipping charges are levied. Typically $7.50 for the first item followed by $.25(singles) up to $1 for each additional item. If you buy one thing, the shipping can hose the value. More items average the cost down. Pick a shipping day (if you haven't) and weekly purchases will accumulate until the night before that day

Then there are a whole bunch of cigars you won't see at CBid at all. That's where the real shortfall lies. Once one's preference falls away from the standards at CBid, looking elsewhere becomes the only option.

Welcome to CBid forum. Join the discussion and you might find you can tailor your palate with relevant feedback.
