Most of us will grab something based on what they are doing and how long they have. What is your favorite ring gauge.
Me it’s the Man O War side project little devil, 5.5” x 44 with a pig tail end cap. The smoke it good but it’s a perfect size.
BTW who like the 60 plus ring gauges?

I can’t stand the hot weather and I’m an easy sweater. I’ve been enjoying smaller vitolas like Tiver mentioned. <=52 and <= 5.5. In the cooler / cold months I enjoy bundling up in layers and smoking a 6 x 60 w/an insulated very large coffee tumbler. I find that I really enjoy a CAO Flathead 7 x 70 when the temperature is below 50 but I won’t even think about lighting one at 80+ outside temperature. Actually, Tiver turned me on to a lot of terrific cigars in this range and JGRAZ introduced me to the Rojas Breakfast taco. Casdagli makes some very good small cigars but they’re expensive for my pocket book.

Jeebs, If I waited until temps were near 80, I would not get to smoke a cigar until November. Late November. Some nights it's still over 100 when I sit down on the patio to smoke. Having said that, I think that 48rg is perfect for me, and I do lean toward shorter cigars in the hottest months. I am a big fan of the AJF Last Call maduro Geniales 4.5x48

I think cigars sometimes just have a size where they taste best, and I go with that when I can find what it is. If that best size is more than 54 ring gauge, I never find it, because I rarely try those. My favorite sizes are 46-50rg, and 6" or close thereabouts. A good ol' 6x50 toro is a good size. Recently bought some 48rg toros for this year's Las Calaveras, and I'm stoked to try one.

But, I have more than once found that a rothschild tastes really good/best for a blend, if they are available. That's something I have noticed, even when I did not want it to be true.

54 or less. Depends on my mood. As lee mentioned some blends just hit better at a certain size. Don pepin original for example. The corona is just decent. The toro is amazing. I could continue but I’m sure you get the point.

Depends largely on 2 things….

Blend
Time available/mood

Generally speaking I prefer 44-52rg but sometimes and with certain blends I enjoy bigger rg but more often smaller in some cases lancero/PL, PC and Lonsdales.

Take for instance the Fuente Magnum R series. The R44 is just special. The 52 and 54 I don’t care for. Some other brands blends the rg difference is less pronounced to me like a Tatuaje Miami brown label. Exception being an aged Exuisitos (lancero) but I like them all.

My personal belief is the wrapper ratio has an impact but less so compared to the filler. You can keep percentages in line but there’s far more QC on wrapper leaf. Just my .02

The E.P. Carrillo Inch comes in 60 , 62, 64 and 70 ring. I’ve enjoyed the 5 x 62 and the 5.9 x 60. They did not feel overdone. They took me awhile to smoke.

Mid to upper 40s is my sweet spot generally. I'll go up to 54 or down to 40 to try a new blend. In extreme cases into the 30s or up to 60.

Though I can handle a bigger rg in a belicoso or perfecto. I'm ok with just the tip

I'm really all over the place, but I prefer to stay in mid 40's to 50. Corona's to Robusto.
There are some that I enjoy still that are upwards of 60. But it's getting fewer and farther between

44 to 52 for me, like ZRX said.

I stay within that range 98.2% of the time.

I'm a fan of lanceros, which I think is the tastiest vitola of most lines that has that size in its lineup. Many are RG 40, so that is my minimum, unless I'm smoking a small cigar due to time considerations. The top end would be 52...anything bigger makes me work my mouth and lips more than I prefer....but if there's an amazing 54 RG cigar, like the LGD Small Batch #2, I'll happily smoke it. My fave size is a lonsdale: 5.75-6.25 x 44-46...
