Just curious. In the last two years our homeowners and both car insurance policies have doubled even though we have had no claims. I'm sure all the tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and wildfires are to blame. Been spending a bunch of time finding new providers.

Everybody else seeing this? More so in areas/states that have been impacted directly?

The two gals at my insurance office always love seeing me, they just let me grab them in ……..pet their dogs.

No increase here. But Oregon did just release the redone fire danger zone map, so we’ll see

Called my insurance company today to figure out why mine went up.. They weren't aware I put a new roof on my house and a couple other mods.. Also dropped full coverage on my 12 year old car.. saved me almost 200 bucks a month.. 😟

My wife was just talking to me about the increasing car insurance for us. Time to start shopping around.

They’ll give all sorts of BS excuses to raise prices. My car insurance recently went up almost 40% despite no accidents or infractions. When I asked why they said I moved, which I did from one unit to another unit in the same building with my vehicle staying in the same garage in the same town and driven the same places.

That sounds like TOTAL BULLCRAP!!!
THE way you get ahead in the insurance industry is deny claims, low ball values in claims and find reasons to raise customers rates...
And if yo have a claim?
By God most companies raise ur premiums by 30% for three years...
So they get back half of what the claim payment you got back to them...

My home owners insurance went from $1,625 a yr to $2,435 !!
I did have one claim, frozen pipe burst in Dec. 2023...I'm still battling with USAA OVER OUR DAMAGED BELONGINGS..
ITS A FREAKING NIGHTMARE...

No claims here. Home isnurance went up 18% last year. Just got the bill this week. Another 18% increase.

Inside source told me there is industry movement around roofs. A new way to underwrite and lower rates. Of course lower rates would mean less coverage for those roofs.

Still wondering if the Florida and Gulf Coast folks are seeing large increases or problems getting insurance as I have heard some companies are no longer offering new policies in some areas that are prone to weather events.

It is happening.
The one thing the media was continuing to get wrong.

Inscos weren't canceling policies. They were non-renewing.

Canceling suggests they had a policy, saw a fire coming, and canceled it. That doesn't happen. Unless there was misrepresentation or fraud proved after the policy was issued.

Non-Renewal (which does happen) when the risk of a diaster are so high, they can't attach a rate to the risk.

Some companies (don't remember their names) tried to assign a rate with the risk on all policies. Heart was in the right place, but it backfired. Mainly because the rates were insane and their names were dragged through the mud.

Imagine if there was a weather police that paid out $1,000 for every event or day the temperature went over 100 degrees in Tucson. That happens what, 90 days a year? The insco would have to charge $100,000 in premium to break even.

Midwestern regional companies with a limited or no presence in California, Florida or anywhere along the gulf coast are profitable. Florida insurance rates are crazy. The company I worked for made some money on Auto, but got hammered so bad the year three hurricanes went through, they suspended selling there for years.

It's only going to get way worse..
Climate change is here...Who gives a crap if it's natural or an earth cycle or brought on by human CO2 emissions ..insurance companies have a breaking point..even with reinsurance markets...like the worthless aftermarket values currently on the books.

This might sound cheesy but check out flood insurance in Tillamook County, OR. Tillamook has purchased a flood insurance policy for declared value of the county's economy. Property/home owners pay the premium through their property tax. Even their heifers are insured. The fee is disclosed. If someone in Astoria or Reedsport farts a bit wet, that county floods, always has (parabolic lens effect of the ocean and the bay combined with Japanese currents). Most of Western Oregon is about as hick as it gets, yet they are regularly a model for very savvy environmental property mitigation.

And Just a couple hours south is where they dynamite blasted a whale. That's just awesome. I know my grandpa Wilbur would have done the same thing if a whale turned up in Mill City.
