Hello All, my cigars are in a curio cabinet. The temperature averages around 77 degree F. According to the 135 rule that would mean that I only need to keep the Humidity at around 58%. That seems like a very low humidity given that a humidity of 65%-68% is typically recommended. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Robert

Maintaining humidity will drive you crazy. Best bet is to keep temperature at around or under 70, humidity can be as low as 60. I shoot for 65rh but pay only occasional attention to it.

At those high temperatures, you definitely should keep the Rh low.

Here is a calculator that can help you see this. If you put into it an Rh of 65% at 70 degrees (which is what everyone assumes is the temp), you get the dewpoint. Keep the dewpoint constant, change the temp to 77, clear the Rh, and hit calculate. The equivalent Rh is 51.38%.

If you use 77 as a temp, and 65% as the Rh, that's equivalent to 82.25% Rh at 70 degrees, which is WAY too high. At that high an Rh, your cigars will taste like crap, burn like crap, and be too hot because they're producing too much steam, and suck. They may not burn at all because they're so wet.

Relative humidity is relative. Changing the temp does not change the amount of moisture in the box, and it's the overall moisture that matters.

I’ve been trying to educate myself on humidity levels. My temp is 73 degrees and my Rh is at 71 giving me a dewpoint of 64%. What is the acceptable range of the dewpoint and should I drybox my cigar before smoking? I have always kept my Rh at 71/72 but have noticed some difficulties with taste. I believe I have been mistakenly keeping the Rh too high.
