Have enjoyed reading this board but haven't really participated yet. I'm a fairly new 'gar guy, been enjoying them about a year, and a small animal vet in the Texas Panhandle. Working on the last few hours of a 36 hour shift, overnight in an emergency clinic where you can nap some. My staff kindly left me a decent lunch which I chose to have a double espresso and a HDM Presando Oscuros. Great day outside and now I'm tuned up! I like all the Fuente Hemingway's, Onyx Baso Madero's and the Panza double madero's. What else should I try?

Best advise I eve got was from an old-timer when I first began smoking cigars (long enough ago that now many consider ME an old-timer) ...

Try 'em all ... try a LOT of different cigars ... but, remember what you like and what you don't ... then, smoke the ones you like ...

Simple advise, but don't overlook the remembering part .. given the # of brands, varieties and sizes on the market, that's easier said than done ...

I might also add. If you find a cigar you like early on,don't buy a box until your tastes have had a chance to settle down. Usually after a couple of years. The reason I say this,is your taste will constantly change and usually towards stronger cigars. This way you won't be stuck with boxes of cigars that are too mild for your taste. Also,after you refine your taste,you can find the medium strength cigars with complex flavors your palate will appreciate. X

I found something in my local shop that I have not seen on CBID yet. It is Zino Grand Brazil. It comes in a black foil wrapper. Not over-bearing, but strong enough peppery taste to carry a nice flavor. Anyone else try these. I understand that Zino is a Davidoff brand. I guess it is the knock-off type.

Anyway, I have found them to be a nice smoke.

Any CAO is a good call too.

I am impressed with what X said. I would have wanted a fee for advice that good. 100% correct. Happy hunting!

If you want a medium strength cigar that is a great value, I suggest The Mayorga Maduros. Very good consistantly. Priced right at no more than $10 for a 5-pack. I like all the shapes & sizes Ive tried.

If you want a more premium cigar I suggest trying CAO's Annaversaries or Padron's Annaversarios.

Just like others have said,try different brands. When I started I kept every band & wrote inside how it was so I wouldnt forget. Then buy the ones you liked best.

I have found my tastes migrating toward stronger cigars. I still like Macs for a lighter smoke. But from this site I was convinced to try Maduros and some stronger brands. 5 packs are the way to go.

I have yet to plunk down the $$ for a whole box. I have gone in with friends for a box. Thats not a bad alternative either. Then you haggle over who gets to keep the box.

A saying from the 60's should be coming to mind right about now? You've got to try everything, at least once in life, including available cigars. I concur with other posters, if you find one you like stick with em. If some are awful, forget em. Kind of like wives, husbands, and lovers.

"X" That is some of the best advice I've seen. Quite profaound and helpful if you have been there and done that like most of us...lol Bet I still have several and would rather buy something than smoke the ones I already have.

Have bought several 5 packs and am making a coolerdor for more storage. Had a CAO L'Anniversaire Toro Cameroon last night and really enjoyed. Guess I'm getting hooked. Starting to design for a remodel of my office and told the architect I wanted to be able to have a cigar in my office without smelling it in the rest of the clinic./
