Hey all ...

In light of everything else going on in this troubled economy ... I was informed by my DSL provider, that they are no longer able to stay in business ...

So, I'm in the process of transitioning to a new DSL provider, and what a mess! Since the DirectvDSL offices have closed and I am unable to contact anyone there, I'm having trouble getting my line released to the new provider. Apparently, once one DSL provider has ownership of your telephone line, no other can use it until they let it go ...

My new DSL provider is working on getting it released, but they say that could take up to a week, and then an additional week for them to get me set up!

DirectvDSL had over 70,000 customers, half of them in the CA/NV states ... and the rest out in the East. So, there are a lot of people scrambling to get new providers.

What that means is, if all goes as planned ... I'll be offline for at least two weeks, starting on Thursday, January 9th ...

... this really sucks!

I'm so sad... :^(

Let's see ...

Each Associate, upon their accepting of Jesus as their God-Father and The Family as their Brotherhood and Sisterhood, are immediately placed under the protection of our God-Father and His Family and begin their training to become a Made Member or Soldier.

They are assigned to a CREW run by a CAPTAIN.

After becoming SOLDIERS, each RECRUIT have the opportunity to become a Capo or Captain of a CREW. Captains are responsible for training and recruiting and have the Honor of Leadership and a position as a man or woman of respect.

Each CAPTAIN may be appointed several Soldiers by the Under-Boss. But, the responsibility to RECRUIT ASSOCIATES and TRAIN THEM into becoming SOLDIERS and, ultimately CAPTAINS is part of the responsibility of the CAPTAIN.

Once a Captain builds his own CREW, he then can Promote Soldiers into Capo or Captains Rank. With the approval of the Area Under-Boss. When a Captain has built a crew and promoted several SOLDIERS into Captains, they may be "Put Up" for promotion to Under-Boss by a VOTE of 70% of the Captains, with final Approval resting with the Area Under-Boss.

When Captains achieve the Rank of Under-Boss, they will be assigned an area, or "TURF" of their own . They may take one Captain they have trained and recruited or a Captain appointed by the Under-Boss and the Captain's Crew of Soldiers and Associates. The final choice rests with the Under-Boss.

The Under-Boss is the leader of the organization.

Man ... I've got a lot of work to do before tomorrow ... LOL!

you too eh? I never got their "email" they said was sent telling everyone this. I read it in the news. Checked the site and saw they were pulling my plug. I had telocity but they went out of business and DirectTV bought the line and now they are gone. What crazy luck. Look at it this way. Two weeks with no bidding look at the money you will save. Think of what you can buy when you get back online with that stash.

RICKAMAVEN --- I was getting 1300kbps down, and 115kbps up ... which was awesome!

Keep in mind, that with a 56K modem, you won't get that speed because of restrictions with the phone lines.

In fact, even if you and your ISP were using 33.6 modems, you still wouldn't be guaranteed 33.6 connects. Few people get 33.6 connects. A large number get 28800 or 31200 connects, but many people only connect at 26400, 24000, or even slower. The phone lines in some areas simply can't support higher speeds.

With DSL ... your speeds depend on how close you are to the CO (Central Office), and if you get close to 90% of the speed they state, you are doing real good.

They're pretty much unchecked now ... I think that's the problem with Slim's ISP ... he wore 'em out just trying to keep up with all the violations here ... now, chaos and anarchy will reign supreme ...

The horror ... the horror !!

Being somewhat of a computer geek I can’t emphasize enough how bad going with a larger Internet service is compared to going with a smaller local company. First off the reason why larger companies can offer you a lower price then Joe’s down the street is because they sell you out. They sell your Email address out to other companies so you will be bombarded with spam the minuite you sign on and it will never stop. They sell advertisements via pop ups that become annoying and tedious. They load you with spyware and TSR’s slowing down your computer and gobbling up resources. And finally other companies pay to have their software installed ON YOUR COMPUTER when you load in the connectivity software burdening your machine with unwanted and unsolicited software. Smaller companies usually have no such agreements or business contracts leaving you with nothing except for what you want and leaving your privacy in tact. Secondly is customer service. Sure the hours might be shorter but you’re going to be able to talk to REAL techs and not a $6.00 an hour employee reading off a sheet of paper on how to solve your problem. I would call around before you sign up with DSL to local providers and ask them a few of these questions I’ve outlined. Sure your going to pay a higher price but in my book it’s well worth it.

Good luck and hope to see you soon

I don't know about all that, but with DirectvDSL ... I, or my wife, never received any unsolicited email in our email boxes. My anonymous email boxes, however, were the ones that got the junk email, for some reason.

With Norton Firewall Protection and a program called PestPatrol (for spyware), in the year I was with them pop-up ads and spam were almost non-existant.

As far as the Tech support, nothing ever went wrong ... and I didn't need them. Well, I take that back. Once, I when I couldn't connect, I called them and had a technician on the line in just a few minutes. It turned out, all I had to do was rest the modem by unpluging it for 30 seconds ... and then pluging it back in.

I loved the service and speeds they gave me, and hate to see them go ... and unfortunately, where I live ... I don't have many choices as to what company I go with.

I basically have to take what is there ...

I see the suggestions about DSL, but what about a cable modem? Is that an option by you? It's faster than DSL. I had DSL and now cable and it's much faster! Plus, it's provided by your cable company, so there's no worry about your provider going out of business. I know my provider, Cablevision, is the only game in town here on Long Island. It's them or a satellite dish!!

Good luck whatever way you go.
