I have a couple of Omaha Steak's shipping coolers lying about in my garage. They're about 2 foot square cubes with tight fitting lids made of 3 inch thick styrofoam. Instead of buying (bidding) on yet another humidor - would these make good candidates for a coolerdor. I do have a number of regular coolers, but as an avid angler, I would hate to give those up. Thanks for any and all advice...

One of the concerns that should be considered is the lids would be too tight fitting. If these were intended for long term storage, stagnant air might be an issue.

With a seal that tight you will more than likely have overhumidification and mold problems.

Just build coolerdor and think of it as a "Live Well" for your smokes!!

I used one of these coolers to take care of an over-supply of CBids. It ran the humidity up to 90%. Cigars were starting to get soggy. Corrected the problem by cutting down on the floral foam used and cracking the lid slightly.

Or untwist a hanger and poke a couple of small holes.

Any humidor you buy or build has to breath! Those coolers are damn near perfectly air tight and I would drill several holes in one, and I WOULD NOT LEAVE THE HUMIDIFICATION DEVICE INSIDE ONCE HUMIDITY HIT 70-74 RANGE!

Some of those type of coolers also have a heavy styrofoam smell. This may be imparted to your precious smokes. If the cooler does not smell like styrofoam, ditto to the above posts. Good luck.
