I'm kind of new this this auction and am really enjoying it and picking up some good cigars. My complaint has to do with a current auction where the minimum bid is $1 with five 5-packs available. Two of the five packs were bid on by myself and another individual at the minumum bid. So far, so good. Along comes bidder number 3 who bumps up the bid to $5 for the remaining three packs, increasing my and the other bidder's auto-bid amounts to $5. What sense does that make? Bidder number 3 could have had his three packs for $1 each and not cost others additional money. OK, he could have also set his maximum to some higher figure to cover his bet. Why didn't he just go with the minimum? Hmmm...

Did someone see a horse wander through here?

OK, maybe I had a little too much caffeine when I wrote that, but I hope someone will feel as I do that it makes no sense and helps no one when you bid $5 for an item which can be had for $1. IMHO, it's like going into a store and saying to the clerk, "I know this shirt only costs $10, but I'd like to pay you $50." Yes, in an auction the highest bidder wins, but why outbid yourself?

Like Rob said, the horse is already dead...In other words, J, this subject has been brought up numerous times...and its the same rant about (surprise) "Overbidding"...See past posts for your answer..Sorry if we seem a little hostile, but someone new brings this subject up once a month....It's an auction for Chrisssake.

Hey, J. Even though it has been discussed at length here, the question still remains as to why some do what they do on the auction. The conclusion reached is that we need to be thankful for those who over-pay; it keeps our sacred site running. When I first bid, I was really eaten up when I got out-bid. You'll learn, though, that most items will come back up for auction soon; just be patient. I've watched something come and go numerous times then grabbed the bid at a later time for less. Just bid what you're willing and don't worry. Good luck!

Guys, take it easy on J. Sounds like his "complaint" is not about the dollar value, but rather the lack of intelligence from bidder #3. Why did he/she START at the $5 bid, when autobid available? It's a good question, and one that may never be answered.

Thanks tailgater, for stating it better than I probably did. In this case, had bidder #3 not increased the bid to $5, he, I and bidder #2 would have won four out of five packs for $1 each and bidder #4 would have gotten a pack for $2. As it turns out, I still wanted a pack, so re-bid and won one for $7. As the evening wore on and the caffeine wore off, I mellowed out with a big La Finca Figuardo and a glass of port. It was a beautiful night to enjoy the cool weather with a fine cigar. That's what it's all about, right guys?

No Rob, you didn't see the horse wander through. It's dead on the floor and this guy is beating the $h!t out of it 😉 I think this perpetually repeating thread is why we no longer see wanyburger around anymore... Welcome to the boards jp. happy herfin'

Perhaps the guy didn't want to use auto-bid, so he bid $2, didn't win, bid $3 didn't win,..etc...bid $5 and won....bid what your willing to pay, then give it up. If you don't win that time, it will be back up soon.

I understand the 'bidding frenzy' that takes place. It happens at all the acutions. It's like gambling ... or an 'addiction (got to have it). If you are prone to that sort of thing, it's easy to understand. What gets me, is that research isn't done before bidding. You can buy the item you are bidding on (mose likely) at the parent site or other sites much cheaper, or try a search engine first! Or at least check on the price, so you don't overbid. It happens al the time ...
