Being new to Cigars, I've heard the term "dog rocket" used on this forum frequently. I realize its basic translation would be a bad cigar. Looking for opinions for the single most factor that would make you classify a cigar as a dog rocket.....ie. uneven burn, bitter, strong bit, no taste, bad draw, or any other etc.

Anything distributed solely by another company.

it would be a matter of personal preference. What one man would consider the a "dog rocket", another may love as an everyday smoke. The real key is to find what it is that you like or dislike, and smoke the one you like.

If you light up, take a few draws and say "Damn! That tastes like crap!" It's a dog rocket.

So true Tarheel. I was giving my definition. None of the ones I mentioned would I try and smoke again.

I have a Lab that distributes huge dog rockets I have to scoop everday, therefore, my definition is a cigar makes that makes me want to throw up, need I say more.

Dog Rockets= 80% of the cigars sold on cigarbid.com

Now don't get me wrong, the other 20% make CB well worth it!

Tarheel ... Spiny's right, you done good ... LOL ... between you and xrundog, you've got it pegged ... any cigar that tastes like crap is a dog rocket ... and since taste varies from one of us to another, no two of us have identical opinions on which cigars are dog rockets and which are not ...

x is right on.....if it taste like crap = dog rocket. There are some supposedly good cigars that I classify as DR, but that is simply a personal preference.

Dog Rocket equals a wide and varied assortment of poorly made and cheapass cigars! While all cheap cigars are not dog rockets, if the ad in the catalog says "used to sell for 150 to 225 bucks per box during the "Cigar Boom" or "Sign of the Times and forced to liquidate" chances are it could be a dog rocket!

And while Iron Bar's statement about 80% may seem a little harsh, I am sure that there are many dog rockets sold by all cigar outlets! I would rate Thomas Hinds, Hamilton House, Lone Wolf (one of worst, because they were such a big splash during the boom-of course that splash was in the toilet bowl), JR Knockoffs, Thompson Cigars, Professor Sila, and OHMYGOD-Bad Frogs as dog rockets that I have had the displeasure to sample!

re: the "boom", it looks like the pendelum is swinging the other way! Some of the major retailers are lowering their prices!

I've not seen it at my local tobacconists, which is why I buy most of my sticks from Cbid or other online retailers. Every local retailer is still living in the boom in Arizona. Considering some of the prices I've paid for high-end sticks online, most local retailers have these marked up over 100%. I still support my local shops, but only on sticks I cannot get elsewhere like Padron 64s and OpusX.

I think Iron Bar's statement is 80% true.
