Why don't we start a newbie bomb program? When someone new comes aboard we could each send him (or her) five or so smokes. They get to try lots of different cigars without wasting alot of money and we can get rid of all our old "too mild" cigars we can't trade away. Whaddya think?

Steve, please allow a minor dissent to a well-intentioned suggestion from a good and generous guy. There's a newbie coming aboard everyday, sometimes more, and when the word goes out they will get 100 free cigars on arrival, they will come in massive quantities. Soon none of us will have any canine projectiles left and will have spent enuff on postage to buy multiple boxes of Opuses. We will all have to change our handles and come back as newbies for survival gars.

How about instead a newbie sampler thread, like they had at JR and now moved over to [censored]? The FOG gets something he (she) wants in return for a big sampler of CI stogies and others and includes some pretty good gars. Now I will butt out of your thread.

Lee, you're right. Something weird happened in my normally Grinch like heart. I had in mind sending all the old Dark Sharks, Fidalgo Negros, and Diesels cluttering up our tupperdores, so it might not be the goldmine some greedy newbies might think. Ah, well perhaps they'll burn nicely in my new chimenea.

Hey! I'm a kinda newbie, ( 8 mo.). Don't be dumping your crap on me! I have dog rockets aplenty already. Just because we're new to CB doesn't mean we're new to cigars. If you can't bring yourself to sh*tcan them grab a handful and take them to the nearest city environment. The bums er....ahh.... excuse me...the housing impaired will be happy to have them. Just don't let any liberals catch you or there will be Hell to pay. That combination of evil tobacco and righteous bums could incite them to create a new ribbon to wear.

Alternate #2:

Present newbies, via e-mail, a quiz. This quiz could contain items covering everything from cigar technical issues to CB board etiquette.....if they score high enough, they get bombed. Otherwise, no cigar. Now, this is a blind test, meaning that they get no tutorial. That way we "see" their true potential as board-based comrades. Also, they are notified that a quiz is to be e-mailed and returned with answers on a specified time table.....ahhhhhh, no internet searching! Some may say this is goofy, but if you're giving away cigars in potentially high numbers, it needs to be regulated.

if you guys are serious about this, the newbie trade thread is the only way to go.

I'm new to the board(approx 1-1/2mons.), but not cigar smoking!! I wouldn't want to be "bombed" with dog rockets. If you saw my humi, you would see that I have VERY FEW dog rockets in there. I know what is GOOD and what I LIKE!!
Everyone was new at some point, weren't they?? Did they get bombed with a bunch if $hit?? Did anyone else have to take a quiz to see if they were worthy??
I love to talk about cigars with people. I read CA, Smoke Mag, and other info on the net. I feel that I have a pretty good knowledge of cigars and smoking them!!
People shouldn't assume that "newbies" don't know any better.

i like this idea. but do we all get to be newbies once. i'm still a newbie ( sortof ). really.

I like to be generous and participate in bombings when they occur. I have given away quite a few cigars in the last 6 months or so. And that's cool! Nice to do something nice for other nice people. But take a look around the boards. There are a LOT of new handles lately. What qualifies a newbie for bombing? Dog rockets? I have weeded them out before now. This is a well intentioned idea but I do not have the stock to participate in this. I will however, participate in future bombings at my discretion.

No problem. I really don't have any dog rockets either. I do have some cigars that are too mild for me now. Most of the time experienced smokers don't want these so they're no good for trade. I thought it might be nice to send some of these to INEXPERIENCED newbies. I really didn't think about the logistics of this so it's probably unworkable anyway.

It seemed your original posting had good intentions. You didn't mention "dog rockets" and you did mention "too mild" cigars, which is fine. My taste has changed to a medium/full taste also. It just seemed to turn into a little bit of a "newbie bashing" and "lets pawn all our $hitty 'gars off on them" type of thing. I got a little offended.

I am a "newbie" as well, and Low hit the nail on the head......not a cigar newbie.
Anyways, let's not make this thread become unpleasant as other fun threads have. It is with all good intensions. I happen to relish several "dog rockets", so send all you want my way:)!

You can throw a few LGCs, CAOs, Indians, etc. in there as well.
