okay, in one of the desktop humidors I am using still, had some mold. One cigar was covered, the rest seemed fine, the humidifying device also had some mold on it. So after I cleaned out the humidor, I noticed days later that still it stinks to high heaven inside, and I tried a cigar and did not taste very good. There aren't many left in it, and I am thinking even though no mold is on the rest of the cigars, the mold "aroma" has pretty much ruined the other cigars? I could move them into another humidor, but that may bring that stench with them. Any solutions, or in the bin with them?

1st-replace humidifying unit....it is ruined.
2nd-try cleansing your box out with distilled H2O and a mild soap like Phisoderm.
3rd-let it air dry with lid open several days, repeat as necessary.

Forgot to tell you........rinse box out thouroughly of soap, don't use too much it will saturate the box.

I would not transfer any cigars to other boxes, mold spores could easily grow in another humidor and start the cycle all over again.

well, arlight, there were only about 20 left in this humidor as I gradually smoke the remaining cigars in my desktops, so I don't know if the effort is worth it. Most are Royal Jamaicas that I have been forcing myself to finish off anyway. Too late as I already moved two Fonsecas to another desktop, and now they smell and look great! But thanks for the tips, I do have spare humidifying unit that I can replace and will clean it down, but use soap?

Based on the selection mentioned I would have not wasted perfectly good mold on these **** cigars. Toss the whole box away, who uses desk top humidors any way.

I had a problem with a little mold in a desktop one time. A mild solution of water and white vinegar works great!

Is plume a thing? I honestly haven't read up enough to know. Is it just mold?

Best advice I had for a stinky humidor came from Carl - wipe down the interior with isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher), then leave it open to dry out before adding cigars.

Plume is a thing according to several internet articles, so it has to be true.

That said, I've never known anyone with confirmed plume. And the shpo owner in Columbus that claimed the fuzzy balls covering his Montecristos was plume was full of chit

I watched a video on plume. There was a reward for any cigar that showed anything besides mold. There were several samples all came back as some type of mold.

I've had plum on a couple cigars.

I've had mold on a bunch of cigars... as long is it don't get on the foot, just wipe it off.

I've had one cigar with plume, an El Rey del Mundo and it was a great smoke. Lots of mold, mostly with old machine made cigars stored in the garage in their original box. I just wiped them and smoked them and they were OK, maybe just a little salty.
