plabonte, I do not think that Mardi Gras is a French celebration, at least the many times I have attended it is one big drunk and lots of good cajun food!

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Charlie, et. al.,

Cajun, Creole, and the words themselves = french, but always in that strange way...enough of a difference to sway the boycotters?

The Celebration isn't French but they did introduce it to the North America.

Guys, do remember that the creole/cajun heritage is based out of Nova Scotia not France (sure they are both French based, but have changed). Also, Mardi Gras has practically NO connection to France.

Despite the history lesson on the Jeff. Parish site. More actual influence has come from the celebration of Carnival in Brazil and the Caribean than France.

I never said Mardi Gras was strictly a French festival. But you can't sit there and tell me that it wasn't influenced MAJORLY by the French. The word Mardi Gras itself is French for fat Tuesday. If not for the French I doubt if this holiday would be celebrated as much (if even at all) as it is here in the states.

That's true, but that is using the same type of argument that if it were not for the French, many 3rd world countries could not communicate verbally (they speak French).

blah blah blah.....I'm bored now and will not return to read on further.

Plabonte, why the hell don't you take a trip to your beloved France and see what it is really like? They will treat you like everybody else from America is treated and you might understand all things French are not what you think they are.

The airlines are practically giving tickets away to fly to Europe.....great deals available. While you are there visit Normandy and think about the Allies that died saving the French in WWII. You cannot go there without crying, I do not care who the Hell you are!

Charlie,

I've been to Normandy and the beaches. Sorry to disappoint, but I didnt cry. Sorry. Rather I stood in awe and marveled in how it was actually done and the resources....the casualties. It was a true tactical nightmare.

Plabonte,

Seriously, I do not mean to argue anymore about this topic that we already have, but if you want a real opinion on the situation, go there and say you are a regular Irish joe from the U.S.. See how you are treated. I bet you will come back and agree with us more so than you would think.

Davey,

I cry in Movies such as Field of Dreams, so I admit that I can cry easily! Yes, it was a tactical nightmare and one that did not come off the way they aticipated, but it is a truly moving experience. Cried during Saving Private Ryan.....yes, I am a softie at heart!

Plabone, I am tired of bshing the French.............but they damn well ask for it with stupid people such as that idiot Prime Minister!
