Anyone try the Zino cigars yet? Outside of magazines and the internet, I've yet to come across any of them. I've heard some singles can retail for $30+, though I'm sure deals can be found somewhere. Anyway, just curious to see if anyone has had one yet and what your thoughts were.

I think it's just some of these companies trying to cash in on "the once in a lifetime, bestest cigar we've ever made and you must get one" fad.

If I am not mistaken, Zino has been around a while. Aren't they part of Davidoff? I have only had the ones that aren't part of the campaign I see in CA mag. The ones I've had are the Swiss made ones in a black foil wrapper, the Grand brazila. It's ok. Affordable. Not very complex flavor, but not a dog rocket. The Sumatra one is way too light and flavorless, however. There is a another whole line, moutan cadet or something, but I have not tried those

Yes, Zino is part of the Davidoff line. It appears that they are in the process of re-blending the majority of the Zino line. They are meticulously rolled, but extremely mild. They truly are a vestige of the early boom Macanudo-mild taste profile. New production is, to steal a phrase, "kicking it up a notch." If you enjoy the Davidoff profile, there are several moderately priced cigars coming out of that factory: Montero, Troya, Occidental, Private Stock, and others.

I got a couple Troya in a trade. Pretty good cigar and definitely kicked up a notch in potency from the ultra-mild Zino, made by Mr. Zino Davidoff.

Yeah the Zino is very mild.
I have gotten a few of the other lines Stve mentioned. The Montero maduro, being my favorite of the whole Davidoff lines. Though it is mild for a maduro, the should have called it sungrown, not a vary dark wrapper. I have tried several of the zino's. Not worth the bucks.

Just a quick note about "maduro". A leaf becomes maduro through the process of fermentation. Various liquids are used in the fermentation process, some which add significant color, others which cause the leaf to turn quite dark but don't add color. Cuba Aliados, Puros Indios, and Genuine maduros from Rolando Reyes Sr. are never dark like the Plasencia or Villazon maduros. Yet, their flavor is distinctly maduro. The Montero maduro is cut of that mold, similar to the Troya maduro and the recently released Davidoff Millenium maduro. In fact, one of the most beautiful of the maduros is Cuba Aliados' doble maduro which actually looks like a rosado. "El Pinter" is fortunately not at work. Maduros of this hue are beautiful and don't leave your mouth looking like you've been drooling on a piece of licorice.

Zino - Very high quality, very mild, very over-priced for those of us who like bolder cigars. Macanudo can provide the same quality/mildness for about 1/3 less $$. I smoked Moulton Cadets for a while when I was about 50-50 mild vs. strong cigars. Haven't had one in a couple of years, however.
