Do a Google search and enter your telephone phone number, if you're LUCKY you won't get anything. If you're NOT, you'll see both your name and address appear along with a link to a map showing the path to your front door.

I became aware of this just yesterday and thought I'd share it with those of you who'd rather than the world didn't have a map to your door by being aware of your phone number.

Go to Google, type in your phone number and click "Search" ... If your number appears, it will show your name and address and give two map options. Yahoo and Map Quest, to your house ... anyone wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number, be it a home or business, could use this feature to locate a physical street address, and receive explicit directions on how to get there.

While there could be positive aspects to this, there are also considerable negatives ... Google does provide an option that will allow anyone to remove their telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping feature. To do so, check to see if you're listed ... if your number and address appear, a telephone icon will appear next to the entry. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page containing a description of the service, and a link to request your number be removed from the database.

I use a cell phone...it didn't come up.

Our home land line is now our business office number. It came up listed under our old business name with our home address.

Hubby's cell phone and main work number came up as our business name, however, it listed the city that the cell phone is billed from as the address.

It won't lead the masses to everyone's door...only if you are publicly listed.

WOW! That's kind of scary. How did you find out about this and what if anything can people do about it?

If your phone book listing does not have an address, will google show one? My guess is thatthey are just reproducing the telephone book.

It shows someone else in my neighborhood's name and address. Now I can be a jerk to telemarketers and tell them to do a google search and come see me in person!

Heh, heh, heh,
My number showed an address I used 8 years ago. I have moved twice since then. Local phone book has it wrong too.
